It is referring to making peace with others. If you want to make doctrine you need more that a portion of one verse. Thanks RC

ORIGINAL: pinopolitan ...taken from Psalms 85:10. What doctrine is this? I find it interesting that you started a thread on Propitiation and one on “Why doesn't He just forgive us, period? Why the cross?” and now one on "righteousness and peace kiss each other." It sounds like you have an understanding of the heart of the gospel. I love this passage of Scripture (Psa 85:10) for it speaks to me of the righteousness of God being in harmony with having peace with God. These two were brought together as the Lord Jesus Christ was crucified on a cross. God's righteousness was fulfilled and peace was made between God and man - glorious gospel . . . thank God!

Ps 85:8 I will listen to what God the Lord will say; he promises peace to his people, his saints-- but let them not return to folly. 9 Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land. 10 Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other. 11 Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven. 12 The Lord will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest. In context, this is poetry and the purpose of poetry is to reinforce and not establish. Therefore, one needs to be careful in establishing doctrine from the Psalms. That said, it appears to me that the Psalmist is attempting to reinforce the concepts that, one can not have love without faithfulness and peace without righteousness. Thus, love and peace are not warm fuzzy fellings but the results of actions. This principle is better made in other passages, but this passage provides us with a feel good reinforcement of it.

Oh, one of my favorites! I will hear what God the Lord will say; For He will speak peace to His people to His godly ones; But let them not turn back fo folly. Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him, That glory may dwell in our land. Lovingkindness and truth have met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed each other. Truth springs from the earth; And righteousness looks down from heaven. Psalm 85:8-11 What you are looking at is a description of Jesus. Jesus is the Peace that God speaks to us, for we have our peace with God through Jesus. He is the Author/Creator as well as the Finisher/Perfector of our salvation. And His glory rests upon us. In Him, lovingkindness and truth have met and righteousness and peace are One. Jesus became man, springing from the earth, so that we could become God's, Who is the righteousness looking down from heaven. Some call it poetry. I call Him Jesus. LL
