Hi,

I'm taking my seven year old son for our annual father-son trip next week. My wife and I decided that it was time (for me...) to have some "formal" discussion about sex with him and are looking for some age-appropriate ideas. We've had random conversations with him in the past as things have gotten brought up but feel like it's time for me to sit with him for some intentional discussion time.

So, can you give me some suggestions on what is appropriate or not at this age? Or any books or websites that might help give me a little guidance on what I should bring up or leave out?

Thanks in advance for the help!

I know Concordia had a series of books for children that progressively ranged in age from like 4 years old and then was every other year regarding sex education.

this link to amazon might give you a better idea - check out the other books that customers bought to see the rest of the series.

I know I really liked these books and they were of great benefit.

This is copied from a post I've made before about this:

I'd start with the idea that God thinks that kids need a mom and a dad who love each other, so they can grow up happy...

So God decided that for Him to make a baby, He's need to use a tiny egg from a woman and a tiny sperm (like a tadpole) from a man... Then every baby would have a mom and a dad, because you can't make a baby without both parts. God also designed the way the egg and sperm join together to be a loving act, so that the baby's mom and dad would love each other, and love the baby.

This act is called 'making love' or sometimes it's called 'sex' or 'intercourse'. Because God wants every baby's parents to be married and happy, He tells all the people who know His love that they should only make love to the person they are married to, and only after they get married.

Now, you know that boys have a penis and testicles. Testicles are where the sperm is made. When a boy becomes a man and gets married to his wife, his testicles will make all the sperm he needs to become the father of a baby. The penis is the way the sperm gets out of the man's body into his wife.

Women do not have penises and testicles. A woman has a vagina and a uterus. The vagina is a soft hole between her legs. When a husband and wife make love, they don't have any clothes on, and while they are kissing and cuddling and hugging really close, the husband puts his penis inside his wife's vagina, and it goes up into her body.

(People like to do this because God made it so it feels really good. He wants married people to be close and love each other deeply, and making love makes their love for each other stronger and stronger. God wants this for married people, because they will love each other forever. He doesn't want people to do it when they are not married, because it will make them too sad if they are not in love forever.)

The sperm comes out of the penis and goes into her uterus, which is deeper inside her body, where her egg might be. When the sperm meets an egg their baby begins to grow. It is their baby forever because God has made it out of the two tiny parts of each of them.

Of course, none of this happens until you are an adult, and God made it so that boys take a few years for their bodies to change and turn into the body of a man. So you can expect your body to do some interesting things in the next few years...
