NEW YORK - Alicia Keys thinks there was no such thing as gangsta rap and it's all part of a conspiracy.
Keys told Blender magazine, "'Gangsta rap' was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other. 'Gangsta rap' didn't exist."
Keys also said that the feud between Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. was fueled "by the government and the media, to stop another great black leader from existing."
Keys said that she wears a gold AK-47 pendant around her neck "to symbolize strength, power and killing 'em dead."
If that sounds surprising, it's a surprise to her mother as well.
Her mom told Blender, "She wears what? That doesn't sound like Alicia."

What an idiotic thing for her to say. And yet this is what many minorities believe (and yes I am a "minority").
They want a nanny-state, the government to take care of them from the cradle to the grave.
Sorry, but it does NOT take a village to raise a child - it takes a family, ideally a mom and dad.
I have a few suggestions on how to fix many of the problems certain people blame on anyone and everyone but themselves:
* stop having kids if you can't support them
* stop having kids if you don't have a stable family structure
- yes, that means TWO parents
* stop having kids if you don't want to take an interest in them
* discipline
* personal responsibility
* get a job
* pay your own way
* set an example worth following
We can see their solution to these things as being:
* raise taxes
*hire some more political idiots to run new agencies
* more studies
We are so doomed.

Well obviously it IS a governmental conspiracy. But, it's a government conspiracy toward decent music, not killing off leaders of any sort. The secret organization is run by Elvis, of course. (Elvis Presley, not elves, though elves may or may not also be involved. Elves and their delicious, delicious cookies.)

There are many people who believe this which is truly funny...in fact insane.
Many people believe the government is their big daddy, but also think the government conspires against them.
I think its an excuse not to better themselves. If the government...or their employer...or the "white" man....or whomever is out there controlling things, they have no true personal responsibility.
...and if these "rappers" are the new black leadership, they shoulda stuck with Jesse and Al.

I know it's ironic. On the one hand, people want the government to take care of them in all aspects of their lives and *expect* it, and complain if the government doesn't. Yet, while desiring for a nanny state they think the government is this big, bad entity "Big Brother" and get paranoid with conspiracy theories that the G-man is out to get them. They complain that the government is being too intrusive. They want it all, and complain when they get it. Hello, does this make any sense whatsoever?! LOL.

The Associated Press is reporting this. It's in the latest issue of Blender magazine and several other major media outlets are reporting the same piece.

Tracy - it seems that your liking of Alicia Keys is clouding your thinking on this, sis.
The AP 'Associated Press' is 'the' standard for news reporting, its trusted in its reporting. Why would they make this up? If they did Alicia's PR people would be all over this.
Also, it doesn't matter if NWA made it mainstream - the culture/lifestyle they promoted in their lyrics, etc existed already. It's not like they outright created the entire movement, they simply made it marketable to the suburban kid that hangs out at the mall.
And it also does not mean any minority was forced to commit crimes.
