You are judging her state of salvation by a 15 minute conversation about her son?? Wow.

There is nothing unscriptural about wanting the Holy Spirit to influence someone towards a relationship with Christ, or convict a Christian of sin in their life.

Please don't misunderstand me.

Her statement wasn't about the Holy Spirit influencing her son "towards a relationship with Christ."

She was looking for God to "get on" or more like, "pounce" on her son and save him, even without her son hearing the Gospel or knowing what the Gospel is.

Her statement about salvation went against the very grain of what Scripture says about how to be born again.

And this lady was a family member, whom I've known ALL my life.

It was so sickening to hear such a thing.

Didn't you say that her son was the drummer for the church's worship team? How could her son not hear the Gospel presented at that church and or not know what the Gospel is?

He is involved in that church's ministry and doesn't know what the Gospel is?

If he plays drums in church, surely he has heard the gospel. I would think salvation would be required before being allowed in any form of minstry, including music.

I have family members I wish the Holy Spirit would get a-hold of. Shake them into realizing their spiritual state. I don't think that is wrong. It is called concern.

I thought I would share this with you all:

About two months ago, I was speaking to a lady, who lives close to me in my hometown. After 15-20 minutes of talking, she begins to talk about her son, who was going through a bit of a rebellious state in his life, and was clearly not living for God.

I should mention that this was an older Pentecostal lady (all her life), and that her son, being 20 years old, was a musician in the church. He played the drums, and was highly dedicated as a musician.

Well, anyway, she went on to make a statement that I will never forget. It was such a statement that spoke VOLUMES about her level of spiritual maturity and understanding. It was a statement that showed me just how deceived she was (and perhaps, most of the members of her church).

She said, "I wish the Holy Ghost would just get on my son when he's playing drums and really save him."

After hearing that, I almost wanted to pinch myself to see if I was dreaming. Surely, this woman, who 'claims' to have known the load for decades didn't make such a stupid statement, right?

Shortly thereafter, we ended the conversation.

There was much I wanted to share with her, but I knew she was very religious and would not hear anything I had to say.

You see, there were about a thousand things wrong with that statement of hers. But, for the sake of brevity, I will share the top three:

1. God isn't 'saving' anyone who does not wish to be saved. Salvation is a gift that is received by an unbeliever, not forced on an unbeliever by God.
2. This woman, and perhaps a lot more deceived individuals at her church, should really stop looking for physical manifestations as a sign that someone is born again. Being born again is not physical, but a spiritual process.
3. If this was her idea of salvation (and how it works), then I question her salvation. I honestly doubt that she's saved. She may be religious, but not born again. And we all know that being religious has nothing to do with God.

If that was her actual statement I may not have a problem with it. I firmly believe we are convicted by the Holy spirit to repent and ask for forgiveness. This in fact could be all she meant. Some people have a hard time articulating what they mean. She may very well not meant to imply force. I agree with Bluestone it would take more information than you supplied for me to reach the conclusions you have reached. Maybe you have that information and just didn't spell it out here.

I guess Paul just slipped off his ride and the dust got into eyes because the wind picked up when he landed on the ground... God isn't always subtle and who wants to be saved? While dead in sin we are made alive in Christ... Sinners are saved...Unbelievers are turned into believers...

Well, I used to go to this certain church that both of them attend. I was a member for many years, until I was born again, and I left there when I began working with my friend, an evangelist, in the ministry.

That church does not preach the Gospel, I'm sad to say. For the many years I was there, I had no clue what the Gospel was.

That church is full of nonsense with people who attribute their own voluntary charisma and physical manifestations to being of the Holy Spirit. It's out of control.

Sadly, all I can say about that church is that you'll become rigidly religious and still know little to nothing about Jesus Christ.

Isn't this what you're coming against in the Word of Faith thread? What kind of Christian church doesn't preach the Gospel?
