I posted a comment in the "Oil Hits $135/barrel..." Folder but I thought it was more appropriate to discuss the implications of Iran having 7 new refineries and we can't get any??? See Story here quote:
Iran Building 7 Refineries to End Petrol Imports TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran has launched construction of seven oil refineries in an effort to boost its crude and gas refining capacity and achieve energy self-sufficiency

Why can't we get any? There was a refinery in the town I used to work in and it closed about 5 years ago. You would think with all the demand they would have kept it open. I wonder how much of the "we can't build refineries here" is baloney?

Problem is that most refineries need to be built near the sources of oil and since we import most of it we would have to build them near the coast to preclude higher transportation costs. Since most people don't want the unsightly, smelly things by their beaches and the rich people that have their homes there operate on the NIMBY principle, we are at a loss. If we put them in the middle of nowhere, transportation costs would still make the gasoline more expensive and thus nullify any possible benefits of an additional refinery.

The answer is simple: the greenies hate America and do not want it remain a superpower. They will do what they can to see that this happens despite the cost it does to the American economy. The pols they have in their pockets may claim to care about the poor, but are lying through their teeth.

My brother-in-law owns 2 gas stations and believes the problem lies with too many taxes and too few refineries. The libs say it'll take years before new drilling and refining wil help. SO WHat! Get started now so our kids and grandkids can benefit. Let's see we started the war on poverty how long ago? LBJ ring a bell? Congress needs to stop listening to the greenies and other America haters use the resources and technology we have.
