Hey Everyone, Does anyone has issues with acid reflux? I have been having a feeling of a lump in my throat for a while, along with burping more. The doctor keeps treating me for allergies but that doesn't seem to be working. I am starting to think now maybe it is acid reflux, especially since both of my parents have it. Has anyone else had these type of symptoms? Does anyone take medication for it? Thanks, Fly

Out of interest, where is the lump in your throat? I'm asking because I have one. It's nothing serious, it's just there. Stress aggravates it. As for acid reflux/burping more. Think about the foods you're eating. You may well have always eaten them, but that doesn't mean that they aren't the cause. Many processed foods can cause reflux. Not chewing your food properly and many carbonated drinks can cause an increase in burping.

If you touch the top of your neck where your glands are that is where the lump feels like it is right inside my throat. Kinda where the doctor tends to feel when they are seeing if your glands are swollen. It is driving me crazzzzzy

I can't remember what my doctor called it. I did check it out at the time though. If it's the same thing, there's nothing to worry about (ie it's not cancer!) but it just generally hangs around, annoying people who have one! Do get it checked out with your doctor if you haven't. For some reason, mine always disappears after I get a viral throat infection and then comes back gradually over time.

My husband was diagnosed with acid reflux several years ago. He ended up admitted to the hospital once, and in the ER more than once because the symptoms were so severe. He took prescriptions for it for a while, but when we changed our diet, it subsided. We stopped eating processed convenience foods, stopped eating out so much and opted for whole grains, more fruits and veggies, and cut the refined sugar. We both feel so much better. He hasn't had an "attack" or taken medication for nearly 3 years now.

I developed acid reflux when I was 19 (I'm 56 now). The two things that helped me the most were to get rid of 50 excess pounds and to quit eating 4 or more hours before bedtime.

I'd see the doctor asap and untill go on a low carb diet. Changing your diet and loosing weight, if you're overweight helps greatly.

Changing your diet definately works. Try to get away from the greasy fried foods, or deep fried foods. Also I found that drinking such fruit juices as pineapple, pineapple mango juice, and papiya juice, helps to get rid of the excess stomach acid. I've tried the juices and no more acid reflex symtoms. hello all, Yes, the sugar is a trigger and I find I can't have too much tomato. Especially anything like a concentration of tomatoes in a tomato or spaghetti sauce----again, a processed food. Someone else discovered that apples were a trigger too, he feels much better if he avoids them altogether. The drugs did not help me at all, and I can live without the expense of them too!

I had the occasional heartburn but nothing that seemed like a significant issue. But I started having trouble swallowing food. It would get sort of get stuck about halfway down. Some tests showed my esophagous had built up a ring of scar tissue, from acid reflux, that was making it stick. They had to go in and dilate it and then put me on Protonix. I've been taking it ever since.
