How do you feel about the direction Gold City is heading in? What do you love about them? What do you dislike? What could they do better? Discuss these and any other topics relating to Gold City.

I think Gold City will retain its popularity - but only if they continue to record songs like "I Believe" and "God Handled It All." If they change their direction too much, they'll lose fans like me.

I don't think any of us should worry about Gold City. I think they'll continue to be on top and put out good, solid SG music.

GOLD CITY ROCKS! That's the end of the story. They're as SG as they come.

I don't know too much about what direction they are going in the future but I've enjoyed them so far. I've always liked Tim Riley but I just saw them in concert recently with McCune and I think he's going to be good. I look forward to hear them continue make great music.

Where's the loyalty?

Are we jumping the gun just abit? To my knowledge they havent put the new album out yet so we really don't for sure what direction they are headed if any! I am a purist and hope they will stay true to their roots but I am not ready to assume and second guess them without proof. If they come out and lean towards ccm I will be disappointed but until they do they still have my utmost respect and admiration. I still say their recordings from the 80's and 90's are THE standard. I can't get enough of the live version of When He calls, I'll fly away.....well, at least Tim's humongous slide on the end.....I could live without Jay's off pitch scream but I admit it was entertaining....I think though I love the energy in Jonathan's voice when he says "C'mon Jay sing that tenor.....that kills me! Speaking of Jonathan, has anyone ever heard him sing "Somethings Never Change?" He used to sing it when he was with his parents....one of my all time fav ballads...

Ok I have only been here a few months and this is like the fourth "Gold City general discussion" thread. I think it's kind of odd that mods quickly shut down general Gold City discussions in existing threads that are deteremined to be "off topic", but then create a brand new thread that is exactly like several others which already exist. But what do I know....

I promise... well... staying until we all fly away that is. *smiles*

Put it on a meter and see...he eventually slides close to it on the first encore but never quite nails it, although close. The second encore he tries to go even higher and doesn't get as close that time as he did on the first try so he drops back down to the actual part and then Tim slides....THAT part is great! I do appreciate that he tried and am not criticizing him for it. ALL singers miss pitch occasionally and I almost expect it from tenors when they are going for a high ending or from a bass when they are going low....the big endings are very fun for me so please don't take my comment as a personal attack against Jay, I just don't personally care for his "note"..... quote:

You actually took the time to put it on a meter? quote:

Jay's "scream", to quote another poster, is acedemic now since he is no longer the Gold City tenor. I personally liked it, on or off-pitch, (and I think he was mostly on), because it added style and excitement to a Gold City concert, along with his face turning purple and Johnathon egging him on. I hope they do not change their style too much. I just really can't imagine Johnathon singing anything but S.G. music. I still do not think Daniel is as good in the MC role as his dad was, but he has definitely improved and came a long way. Count me as a Gold City fan, past and present.

I've heard the whole group when all of them had pitch issues, but who doesn't? I would dare say that pitch correcting machines are more common than everyone might think and it's not unheard of for a person to not be on pitch. It's rare that anyone actually have a perfect concert without the assistance of electronic devices. And...who cares if he's off pitch on that one note? I've rarely heard him when he's that far off. And as an artist, while I expect every artist, including myself, to do the very best they can, I get a little irritated at people who criticize for imperfection. Y'all try singing every night like they do and see if you don't have some pitch problems.

I actually don't really fully mind something that's just a tad off. Listening to it repetitively (as on a studio record) would drive me crazy, but if it's just a little off, or if he slides into the note, it just reassures me that he really did hit the note live, and they didn't doctor it in the studio afterwards.
