I got a smile on my face when I saw your question, Little_1. I have a friend who frequently quotes some hymn about God's word being a deep, deep mine. (I didn't grow up with that hymn nor do I know it except for her quotes.) And, of course, Proverbs speaks of this as well. Yes, we are to dig deep. And I do. But most of my 'digging' is the Holy Spirit teaching me---hence, not mine at all. This morning I was in Matthew 7. I was meditating on verses 13-23. It is the familiar passage of enter by the narrow gate for it leads to life and few find it. Then it speaks of false prophets and how we will know them by their fruits. The passage ends with Jesus telling us that many will be cast out because He does not know them for they have practiced lawlessness. We often think of 'fruit' as people's good works, what they do. But today, the Lord led me to what John the Baptist spoke of, bringing forth fruits in keeping with repentance. Bringing forth fruits in keeping with repentance is the right contrast with practicing lawlessness because one is walking in truth and the other darkness. One is being truthful about yourself and letting the light of God reveal your sin to you and then walking in that truthfulness. The other is walking in darkness, not having your sin exposed, not being truthful with yourself, God or others. In fact, John's gospel says "But he who practices truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God." (3:21) Those deeds are not 'good' deeds. They are truthfulness about ourselves. That is the work of God in us. Anyway, that's the mining work He's done in me today. (or some of it) I have to keep myself in that place of hearing. I'm eager to hear what others have 'dug up'!
