I've been reading this book and it seems to make a lot of sense. I think Prevention Magazine has a pretty good reputation or I wouldn't have bothered with it. Has anyone else on here read the book? Got any opinions?

Never heard of Prevention Magazine. Sorry. I will say though that belly fat, and other fat may be caused by a lot of different issues. If you're a woman and have had children, the 'fat' may be muscle that has stretched and isn't quite as strong as it was before you had children (and this can happen if you've lost a lot of weight from that region too). While there are some women who are able to regain their prepregnancy belly, I suspect that these are in the minority. There is a lot you can do to tone up your abdo though, just watch putting too much faith into a diet though ~ especially given that once many people come off a diet their old problems return.

The middle sags in women with the change of life too. I am a slim woman, yet my waist is gone. I eat all the right foods and exercise. So diet and exercise isn't the whole answer.

Prevention magazine is a health magazine in the US that is geared toward women 40 and up. They're usually good about not doing fad diets and gimmicks. I have read the article that summarized the diet and it really wasn't too different from most other diets.. eat more vegetables, etc. Here's the website.. but prevention magazine also has some cookbooks and other books you can buy at the store that are probably the same thing without signing up for the service. http://www.flatbellydiet.prevention.com/food.asp?keycode=0A1230

There is no scientific evidence that any diet will target a part of the body. If you have a big gut and lose weight, your gut will get smaller. Prevention is heavy on the OTC supplements and other questionable notions like this diet's claims.

I've been discouraged the last few years with Rodale Press, the publishers of Prevention magazine and other books. It seems like they are just trying to sell books and don't care if they are factual or not. A few years ago I bought a Rodale book that said one thing in one chapter and the complete opposite later on in another chapter. I don't think their books get their facts straight often enough.

They must have changed then, they didn't use to be like that.

I used to read Prevention, and I remember some really good advice in there. I haven't had time to read in years, but I've been thinking about picking one up and the grocery store. I don't know what it is like now, but it used to be great. I surely do need to lose some belly fat!!
