I don't remember seeing this thread being on here, if there is another one I am sorry for repeating it.

Last month was a big month for concerts. Each one was exactly 1 week from eachother. First it was Children of Bodom. Saw them a couple years ago as an opening act and that ruled. But seeing Children of Bodom headline a show, is fantastic. I had whiplash and my voice was shot for 5 days. I had to recover as quicky as possible because next was Nightwish/Sonata Arctica. Sonata Arctica was great live, but Nighwish was by far the best. This was the 2nd time seeing them and it was even better than the last. Unfortunatly after this Anette got sick and they had to cancle the rest of the North American tour. Then came the one I was waiting for, Iced Earth with Matt Barlow. This one was incredible, they are one of my al time favorite bands and I was just in awe of the whole thing.

It was the most fun 3 weeks.

I've been to quite a few concerts. Some were ok, but these were very memorable.
Years ago I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd, although it didn't have the all the originals, I truly enjoyed it. The sound was perfect. The songs were many of my favorites. The Rossington Collins Band opened for them.
I had a great time at a Jeremy Camp and Mercy Me concert. They are really good live and interacted a lot with the audience. Both very talented.
The band Red is another band that is good live, very loud and energetic.
Family Force Five puts on the most lively concert I've ever been to. The energy that those guys give off is amazing and they are very talented. They bring so much to their audience and have a great sense of humor. I wish I could dance as well as they do, too.
The most awesome concert I've been to recently was Collective Soul. They sound live, just like they do on cd's or radio. I had so much fun and it was really great to see how many young people new the words to their old songs and were singing right along. Ed Rolands interacted a lot with the audience and the band genuinely enjoyed performing for us. Every time I hear their songs now, I 'm taken back to that night.

For entertainment value the best shows I ever saw were:
1) Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band during The River tour in 1980. the show lasted 4-1/2 hours. He took one 20 minute intermission. Absolutely incredible.
2) Billy Joel in the late 80's (don't remember the exact year).
3) Genesis on the ABACAB tour. Even from behind the stage the show was amazing. Great lights, lots of fog, and two of the best drummers around.
4) The Who's first farewell tour in 1982. This was with Kenny Anderson on the drums.
5) Earth, Wind, and Fire in Madison Square Garden after the release of System of Survival. Back when Phillip Bailey could still hit the high notes.

For pure musical ecstacy:
1) Stevie Ray Vaugan and Joe Cocker - Stevie was smokin' and Cocker's band was so tight I thought I was listening to the original recordings.
2) Count Basie and his Orchestra. Saw them just about a year before he died when they played a benefit for his boyhood church in Red Bank. Shot almost 200 photos.
3) The Tonight Show featuring Doc Severinsen. A band of consummate professionals with one of the greatest trumpeters ever.
4) Stanley Jordan. It was his first ever tour. I sat front row center stage, not more than 10 feet from him, and still couldn't believe my eyes and ears.
5) Al DiMeola, Jon McLaughlin, and Paco DeLucia at the Tower theater in Philadelphia. With special guest Steve Morse, who quit halfway through one song because he couldn't keep up. Seriously.
6) Pat Metheney Group at Radio City Music Hall for the First Circle tour. Probably my favorite combination of artist and venue. A great guitarist at one of the premier theaters in the world.

Thanks for starting this thread, it's been a nice walk down memory lane.

Probably my favorite concert was Yes during the Yessongs tour. A close 2nd was Jethro Tull during the Thick as a Brick tour. The warm up band, Wild Turkey, featuring former Tull bassist Hammond-Hammond was a treat as well; they almost out-did Tull. (at least until they started Locomotive Breath!!!)

Wow Dave, you're old! I didn't get to see Yes til the Drama tour. I saw J. Geils the same year. They put on a really good show, too.

I would have loved to see Stevie and Joe. Stevie is my most favorite blues guitarist.

Cool. My very first real concert was Yes's next tour, when they were doing "Topographic Oceans" (spring of '74). It was great - my dad asked me after the show if the singer was a man or a woman (bless him). Didn't see a Tull show until "Too Old To Rock & Roll", '76 I believe.

As far as the very best concert I've ever seen, it was Springsteen in the summer of '78 - Darkness on the Edge of Town tour. Nothing, not even more Springsteen shows, has come close.

Favorite Christian concerts - Jars of Clay with PFR, Steve Taylor with the Newsboys, Rich Mullins with Ashley Cleveland, The Choir with Russ Taff, and four or five Amy Grant shows in the 80s when MWS and Gary Chapman were in the band. Always a good time.

I saw SRV open for Jeff Beck just before he died.
It was an awesome show and one of the best that I've seen.
Also on the list:
Derek Trucks Band in 2006
Eric Johnson in 1991 opening for Joe Satriani. Joe who?
Pieces of a Dream in 1984 opening for Stanley Jordan.
Santana in 1985ish
Anthrax in 1989 opening for Ozzy. They KILLED Ozzy.
Todd Rundgren in 1988ish
Brad Paisley in 2001. My band opened for him. I'm sure we were forgotten once he took the stage...

I haven't been around long enough to see some of those greats . . .the best of what I've seen:

Mute Math - dynamic, interactive, creative . . . amazing show.

Kids in the Way - while they don't do anything special per se, what they have is pure passion. I've seen the lead singer sing his heart out so much that he falls to his knees and is unable to stand. I've never seen anyone put as much into the music as him.

What wonderful opportunities you had to meet some truly great artists. I went to your myspace and I enjoyed listening to your music. I like the song Everyday, it is very good. I'm sure that you were able make an impression on someone even if you did open for Brad Paisley. Many a concert I went to and can still remember the bands that opened for the headliners.
God Bless!

Another really good concert was when I saw (dons asbestos long johns and picks up shield) Elton John. My step dad was an usher at Notre Dame (both the football stadium and the Joyce ACC where the basketball and hockey games are played) and at the ACC he worked the back entrance where the bands came in so I got to see the sound checks of many of the bands.

I did not recognise the name of EJ, although I found out he was the John of Long John Baldry, a brittish blues band that I had heard of. A friend went with me and while the warmup band was getting their stuff set up on stage Dave and I went to a lunchroom to get a snack. A couple of guys were in there with thick English accents trying to figure out how to microwave a sandwich they had just bought from one of the vending machines, they had never seen one before. So I showed them how to use it. THey were very thankful. I figured they must have been a couple of roadies with John, but when he took the stage after the Dillards (bluegrass group) finished their set, I saw it was the drummer and lead guitarist from John's band. It was not until he sang "Your Song" that I recognised him. He finished his show with a Rock and Roll piano medly (Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard and Fatts Domino songs) that was incredible.

I still have the signed program (by John) that my step dad got.

On the way home the radio station I always listened to played "Rocket man" for the first time.

Having heard three different shows from that tour either on bootlegs or radio, I have to agree. The folks in Cleveland and Paramus, NJ were very lucky.

No need to be embarrassed about Elton John. I saw him at Madison Square Garden, and the place was literally bouncing. He a great showman, even if he's lost some vocal range and gained some weight.

The best concert that I have recently seen would be a recital that Anna Skalova did at my college.. She is a tremendously awesome violinist...

I haven't been to a concert recently. The best concerts in my past are those I remember from my youth (probably with rose-colored glasses). The first 2 concerts I ever attended were for a band called The Lonely Now. I had a blast! The OP author would appreciate this band also because they are one of the few bands in CCM history to have a violinst in the band, Masaki Liu. Yeah, he played guitar, too, but it still counts!

1) Tonex's Out the Box recording in San Diego. Where else do you get guest artists like Kirk Franklin and Sheila E.?

2)Kirk Franklin/Trin-I-Tee 5:7 Nu Nation Tour. The star power present was uncanny!

3) Petra/Steve Taylor Beat the System Tour - the last time with Greg X. Volz and the one and only clown of Christian music.

4) BeBe & CeCe Winans/Take 6 Heaven Tour - The music was unreal and the star power there was unprecedented as well! Comedian Jonathan Slocumb was a great host. Whitney Houston was a great surprise!!!

5) Undercover @ my high school. It was the biggest surprise of my first day at school. I skipped lunch to listen to Ojo and company.

6) Steve Taylor/Kenny Marks/Randy Stonehill/Phil Keaggy/David Meece - my second ever concert was totally memorable and only $10 at Knott's Berry Farm!!!

Best concerts from 2007:
Queensryche/Alice Cooper/Heaven and Hell: First time that I have ever seen the mighty Ronnie James Dio live and I was in awe the whole time. Hard to believe that someone in their 60's can move the way he does and still belt out that awesome voice. Alice Cooper, it was my 2nd time seeing him and the same thing applies. Amazing showman who never gets old.

Gwar/Cradle of Filth: It was my 2nd time seeing Gwar and this time I meant to get dirty. My face was covered with green and red gook. After the show, I went into a convenient store and the people couldn't help but stare.lol But the whole night belonged to Cradle of Filth, they are one of my favorite bands and Dani lived up to every expectation I had. Great Charisma and an awesome deaths creach hat I haven't heard anyone else come close to hitting. The band was very tight too. My neck was sore for 2 months after that show.

Paradise Lost/Nightwish: The only thing that Iheard from aradise Lost was an extremely bad quality live video. Needless to say they realy surprised me that night. Then it was Nightwish. What can one say about tem. Incredible musicianship, incredible singers in Annette and Marco, and a gifted song writer in Tuomas.

this one is from last april, I can't believe I forgot this one. The metal queen Doro Pesch with support from Fatal Smile. Fatal Smile was great, its nice to hear nostalgia instead of nonscense. These guys are what you would get if old Skid Row merged with Motley Crue but with a much more powerful singer. After the show, I went directly to the souvenir both to get their music and the band was their to sign autographs. They were some of the nicest people I have ever met. Then comes Doro, living up to her title as the Metal Queen. Within 10 seconds of hitting the stage all attention was on her and she had the crowd in her control. Ranks very high in my top 10 concerts. Then she later would meet up with the fans, and I had no idea what to say to her besides "Your awesome, may I get a picture with you." There are some people who are completely fake about their love for the fans, but Doro Pesch is not one of them. I can't wait till she comes back to Florida.

I saw the Newboys in concert at our local fair last night and I had a great time! The concert was rather short, only an hour long and they didn't play my favorite song (Adoration) but the atmosphere was energetic and fun! I will definately go see them again.

I saw both of these tours. Kansas opened for Styx - I'm not sure but Steve Walsh seemed to be pretty drunk. Both bands gave a decent show.

The Metallica show was like being in a war zone. I was dead certain I was going to get hit with an exploding fire cracker - but fortunately I never did. Pretty much put me off ever seeing them again. Once is enough with those guys.
