Yes, the title is right. :)

I can't eat most fruits, veggies, things based on them, and wheat/whole-grain items. There's something intrinsic to things that grow from the ground that my body uses for evil. (Seriously.) There are a few things that have very little of the chemical that I can sometimes eat-- sometimes not. (Just depends on how bad I'm already doing that day.)

So, if one must avoid what's typically healthy, what are the better bad foods to eat?

TIA

I have a sensitive stomach too, so I eat proteins with sides of rice or pasta. I know its not the healthiest but vegetables and sometimes grains cause problems. Also I think I am lactose intolerant too winter's coming and I will eat some more soups .. thats an idea.

You aren't alone. Are you eating some probiotic foods ? it helps some. There also enzyme supplements for digestion but everyone has different results.

Lol. Well, I eat them from time to time. The Krispy Kremes around here are becoming more expensive, but so is everything else.

Miss Giggles, I usually just stick with sandwiches with some kind of (non-fruit/non-veggie side). I'm lactose intolerate, but the reason why I can't eat fruits/veggies is that a chemical compound in them exacerbates one of my pain disorders, and it's bad enough already. I eat probiotics once in a while, but digestive problems wasn't the reason for not eating veggies/fruit. I probably need something if I decide to eat something with lactose though.

Lightshine on, you are so right about donuts. At work Thursday is always donut day. I always grab one, and one only. If I eat more than one I end up wearing it so to speak. I can just look at a donut and gain a pound. But Oh they are so good! Especially the Chocolate Cream Filled ones. Yummy!

Are there some kinds of fruits/veggies/whole grains you can eat?

There are a lot of healthy foods I can't eat because of food allergies, and it can make it difficult to find the right stuff to eat. But instead of worrying about what I can't eat, I concentrate on the stuff I can.

But, yeah, as was said, any kind of real food. So... any kind of fruit/veggie that you can tolerate, whole grains (brown rice, oatmeal, etc) meats, beans/nuts, dairy can be good if you can tolerate it- can you use lactaid tablets?

But, if you really can't do ANY whole grains, the less processed the better- white rice, pasta, or bread is better than having donuts, chips, or cookies...

And sometimes the amount or the way it is prepared makes a difference- can you handle applesauce rather than a raw apple? Or can you eat cream of wheat rather than triscuits? Or mix a little whole wheat pasta along with some regular pasta?

Also- starchy veggies would be a better choice than a lot of processed grains. So... if you can't have brown rice with dinner, can you handle a baked sweet potato?

Is it a problem with the fiber in these foods? Because sometimes you can build a tolerance to them slowly (and sometimes you can't).

Obviously these suggestions depend on how serious your reactions to the foods are and exactly what kinds of symptoms they give you. But my main point is think about what you CAN eat, and then try to rotate those things around to give you variety and meet all your nutritional needs.

Solo, is it better for you if you try lactaid before you have anything with lactose? I use that from time to time and it works for me. Maybe it will lessen any bad side effects for you if it doesn't take them away.

Really? Is it a digestive disease? ...Like lactose intolerance?...That stinks you can't have healthy foods.

What about tuna? It's low carb and pure protein for health. :) I love tuna sandwiches.

Also, what fruits/veggies CAN you eat?

The only things (fruits/veggies) I can get away with eating are apples sometimes (NO peels) and lettuce (iceburg). I'm supposed to be able to eat bananas, but I can't. I can't do any unprocessed/whole grains...just white/bleached stuff. I usually can deal with the lactose reactions though...I don't eat it often, and when I do, I don't eat much.

It's not a digestive disease; a chemical compound in many things that grow from the earth imbeds itself into (certain) body tissues and causes worse pain than what I'm already dealing with. It's a complication of a pain disorder I already have. I suppose you could say the compound exacerbates what's alreayd here.

I have a friend who has serious and wide-spread food allergy issues. She can't even drink the water in a restaurant ... she's only able to consume certain brands of bottled water, and knows which bottled soft drinks she can have without a reaction. Every time we go out to eat, she has to take a pill (doctor Rx) before eating. This is what she does when she is craving something and "just has to have it": she takes her pill, eats as quickly as she can so she can consume as much as possible, and as soon as her stomach starts hurting, she quits eating. Then she has another medication that she takes so she doesn't get too sick.

What does she eat during these food gobbling times? Whatever she happens to be craving the most.

Meg, is that growing the fruits and veggies without soil, but with the nutrients? I've done that before, but of course, I was doing an experiment.

Anyway, the nutrients are the problem. I don't think things need soil anyway...just for anchor and to leech vitamins and minerals from. I *think* what happens is that a specific nutrient is taken up by the plant and turned into the compound, and it's of some benefit to the plant to have the compound. It might help with sustaining growth or something. (I forget what exactly it's used for.)
