I first started listening to him during the 1980's when they had the video for the song "Surrender." I later had their album Shoulder to Shoulder which included the title track and the hit "How Much Love".
In 1989, they released Long Way From Paradise which quickly became one of my favorites also. That included the remake "Crying In The Chapel" and the song "Take Me Back."
I did not follow them too much after that, then out of nowhere, Bob Carlisle appeared on Top 40 radio with his best known song "Butterfly Kisses". Later he had the song "In The Hands Of Jesus" which was really good also.
I am just wondering if there are any other fans of him and the band Allies and/or his first band Sweet Comfort Band also?

I had a cassette of the first album which I played to death. That's one of those I wish I had picked up on CD while it was in print. Maybe I'll come across it one day. Good band!

Allies CD
Note: there's a bit of confusion over whether this is the Christian Allies or a post punk seattle band named The Allies. The MP3 downloads are of the Seattle band but the CD page is of the Christian Allies. If you go into the marketplace option you'll see (if it doesn't sell out) a seller "M8 Distribution" that has the debut you mentioned along with the followup "Virtues" for 7.88 plus 2.98 shipping. The seller is very definitive about which CD he (they) are selling. Other sellers also describe what they are selling in detail and again its the Christian Allies.

I have "Allies" first 4 projects. After "Shoulder to Shoulder", they were not the same. I loved Randy Thomas' first group, Sweet Comfort Band. I, too, learned about them watching "Surrender" on Real Videos.
I actually saw the band at a free concert the first time and met their bassist at the time. Later on, my theatre group opened for them at a church and I met Randy and Bob.

I just got Shouldler to Shoulder about 2 weeks ago. I think that was their best album.

I was a huge fan of both Sweet Comfort Band and Allies. I saw Allies in concert, they opened for Mylon Lefevre and Broken Heart, so I'm aging myself.
By the way, Bob Carlisle was not part of Sweet Comfort Band, that was Randy Thomas, he was the guitarist for both. The lead singer for Sweet Comfort Band was Bryan Duncan.
I do believe that Bob Carlisle may have sang some of the backing vocals on some of their songs though.
My Favorite albums of Sweet Comfort band: Hearts a fire and The Cutting Edge.
My Favorite albums of Allies: The River and Man on a Mission.
Man, I wish I could find those all on CD cheap somewhere.

Not cheap but not horribly expensive either. No find on "The Cutting Edge" on CD.

Here's Amazon's Allies page. Both CDs are there but a bit expensive, a little under $30 each.

The River was such a rocking record, albeit in a highly fundamental way. Nothing else that Allies or Bob Carlisle has done has come close to matching up to what they accomplished on The River. It was pretty much a fluke.

The only Allies disc I have left is "Long Way From Paradise".
I no longer have "The River", traded it for something else a long time ago...and I might have had "Shoulder To Shoulder" (was that from around 1987?).
I liked them...."Old Man Down" is one of my favorites.

"Second Chance". I liked the hard rocking sound of "You're All I Needed" from "Shoulder to Shoulder" but the rest of the album sounded nothing like it.

Let's see if my memory serves me right. Send me from their first album; Harmony can't remember off hand album name; Take me to the river, can't remember the name of the song, but the classic line, "we all shouted revele when our brother Stevie C. said the S word in a magazine," The river, all from the album, the River; Another feather in your cap, Rock n Roll angel, both from Man on a mission.
Another feather in your cap has my all time favorite line in all genres of music, "You look like Alice Cooper but you act like Barney Fife."
There are many more I liked, but my mind is going blank right now.

I like "Trust in God" - especially the part about the elderly couple in the park holding hands. I think that is so sweet.
