My church is trying to find a 15-passenger van to pick up some of the children in the community who want to come to the church. We only have around 60-70 people who attend services; therefore, we don't bring in a lot of revenue. A van would help in getting these children and teens to our church. Does anyone know a church who has a van for sale near KY? Where can we find one for a relatively cheap price? Thanks.

Craigslist, swap sheet, ebay, etc. Before buying, check into DMV requirements for driving around people in a van that large - it may be classified as commercial and require a special inspection and/or special licensing to drive it. -Dan.

We bought ours (family vehicle) off from ebay. It used to belong to a boy scout troop from a church in a neighboring state. It has been a great vehicle for a really reasonable price. I would go that way again to find another one when the time comes that we need another one. It would be good to check out the laws in our state. I know that in some states you would have to have special license to drive a 15 passenger van for a church.

It was used, and we got a very good deal on it. If there's a local transit authority in your area (not buses, but vans which is what ACTA uses) you could always contact them to see when they're selling their vans.

First thing to do is call your church's insurance provider. Many companies are refusing to provide liability coverage on 15-passenger vans due to roll-over concerns. Our church first removed the fourth seat to comply with our insurance company's requirements but, later, just got rid of the vans all together. Not sure if the insurance company quit providing coverage or we just decided to get rid of them.

I have no suggestions for finding a van, but I wanted to second the posters that said check with your insurance. You might also want check the laws in your state, because where I am, you have to have a CDL to drive a vehicle that holds over 12 passengers. A regular driver's license won't work.
