This thread is for those "disenfranchised" people who have ever been involved in a group considered a sub-culture: goth, punk, skin, sk8er, etc. If you are pierced and tattooed, please come and feel welcome!

I don't generally sit around talking about my body modifications, but I will if you will.

Also, let's discuss how our appearance has affected our faith, and how people of faith react to us, and how our appearance has led others to faith.

I am glad to see this thread. I felt awkward talking about my piercings and tattoos on a "Christian" forum but am not ashamed of my modifications.

I have a belly button piercing, a nose stud, and five holes in my ears. I have three tattoos. All of them, but one were tho't out before I got them. I have a small butterfly on my left shoulderblade, dolphins on my lower back and another that I won't disclose here (the one not tho't out, BEFORE I was saved). I have a 13 yr old daughter and these modifications have actually been a tool for me to talk to her and her friends. A lot of them think I'm "cool", and even though that wasn't what I was going for, this has helped them open up to me with things they probably wouldn't talk to their parents about.

LOL!!!

I am probably the least likely person anyone would think would have a tattoo ... but I do!

I admit it makes me laugh to see the expressions on people's faces when they find out I have one. It's a hummingbird and flower, and I used to wear racer back shirts, so I had it put on my left shoulder. I can soooo understand why tattoos are addictive. Not that I'm planning to get another one, but I have considered what I might get if I did.....

I also have three piercings in my left ear, since I part my hair on the left, and that's the side I usually will put behind my ear, but just one in my right ear. Little kids get a big kick out of it.

Welcome to my humble thread! I didn't think anyone would ever post in here.

I have six tattoos--three large and three small. I have 13 piercings, 11 of which are in my head. My husband is heavily tattooed. All my friends are heavily tattooed.

A few years ago we were seeing a pretty significant revival among the punk kids here, but that got derailed by some suicides. It seems like there is potential for things to pick up again, but I'm old and tired now and not so apt to show up for shows and the like. I'm an old married lady now.

I've looked like this for so long, I don't notice so much when or if people look surprised. I did kind of get a kick out of the meeting I set up with the pastor of the church we started attending last fall. I was grilling him on the beliefs of the church and I know he didn't think I was the type to care. ha ha

Hmmmm, now what would really be living on the wild side? Bungee jumping, getting a tattoo? (not so sure if I would), taking a dance class? (naw, thats not living wildly, lol) but my hair says a lot though when its long!

Fact is, these days ppl such as grandmothers and pastors' wives etc may also happen to have multi-pierced ears etc and little maybe faith related tattoos.

So I guess that pastor gentleman ought not to have been too surprised.

There is a thread titled "Jesus' tattoo"

It refers to Revelation 19:16, which says

And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, "KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS."

Not trying to make a discussion about what this means, just saying ...

Last night in my Bible study, one of the other ladies who has numerous tattoos and is forever getting grief from her father ... well, let's just say I asked her if her father was aware of this verse.

My next tattoo will be a Texas flag with the words "Native Texan." On the back of my right calf. I'm thinking maybe...five? inches in diameter. I guess it depends on how big my calf is.

That's coming in the next few months or so.

So when was it that you caught the 'urge' to get more tattoos, did you at first think that you would 'dare' to get just one? and was it the faith related thing that urged you on, maybe?

I was following and posting in Farouk's thread about little boys getting their ears pierced. Those of you here who have tattoos and piercings...what do you think about your current or future kids getting them?

I don't personally care whether a kid of either gender has their ears pierced. Easy, relatively painless, meh. As long as they're old enough to take care of them, I don't care. My first holes were done when I was three. My niece was the same age.

Teenagers are notorious for not taking care of their piercings. In fact, most piercers I know (and I've known a whole lot) won't pierce cartilage or navels on anyone under 18. They take a long time to heal and teens are just not good about patiently caring for them for months and months and months. I probably would allow some piercings and not others for that very reason. I also don't have a problem with gauging up, as long as it's done the correct way and not the "I want to be cool, so let's do everything possible to stretch my earlobe now!" way.

Tattoos...not before 18.

I got my first tattoo as I was approaching 30 and it was a design I had drawn about three years prior. Faith had zero to do with it, as I had turned away from my faith for awhile and it was during that time. I just kept getting them after that. I've had six over the past ten years or so and three are quite large--one stretches from shoulder to shoulder across the top of my back, one covers the entire lower back area and one covers my entire lower left leg. I figure if you're going to get tattooed--GET TATTOOED!
