With the mention of Patrick Dempsey in a new film out, this reminded me of Can't Buy Me Love. This is a film from the 1980's where a nerd pays the most popular girl in school to be his girlfriend. This movie had a lot of lessons about peer pressure and how it affects teenagers decisions.

Saw that movie a dozen times. I didn't think Patrick Dempsey was cute then and I don't think he's good-looking now. I think it's really weird that women do. <shrug>

It was a fun movie though, and it had a long plot line, unlike some films that seem rather boring instead.

I loved that movie! I have it on DVD and watch it from time to time. I think I wore out the VHS tape when I was younger though!

My sister had an obsession with that movie (and Licensed to Drive and Cocktail) so of course I've seen it many times.

Eh. Predictable and it seemed like a lot of sex at the time. It was still better than Licensed to Drive OR Cocktail though.

Dh and I joke that we liked PD better in Hugo Pool because he couldn't talk.

Amazing how childhood friends split over cliques. Great story.

License to Drive and Lost Boys were some of my favorites. I had a crush on that cory haim kid... LOL

Also Stand By Me and the Goonies were important movies.

I was still in HS when this movie came out. Whenever it's shown on a cable channel, I watch it. It's not my favorite but the story had a good message. There was a remake later on with Nick Cannon, Love Don't Cost a Thing, it was OK but I prefered the older movie.

Saw the latter the other night. Pretty faithful to the original, except with basketball as the background.
