""Native Americans demand billions from US in land profits suit""

""In an earlier opinion in January at the outset of the trial, the judge said a lack of adequate accounting of trust money did "not mean that a just resolution of this dispute is hopeless."

He wrote that "a remedy must be found for the (Interior) Department's unrepaired, and irreparable, breach of its fiduciary duty over the last century."""

Palehawkwoman has listed (somewhere) the way native americans are treated by the government. This does not surprise me at all.

President Andrew Jackson was ordered by the supreme court to cease and desist in his slaughter of Natives in the "Trail of Tears" relocation. He responded by telling them they needed to raise their own army to stop him.

Such is our government's attitude for non-whites.

That all depends on the spread between the government's figures and the tribes'! If I'd go by the judges words from the bench, it's going to be 25% of what they are asking maximum with it being as little as 1% (or less).

I think that him asking both sides for more documentation to assist him with his judgement is reasonable though. And, at least, it's not being contested still that there should be an award of any kind!

...and people trust the government.
