If you had to explain this to a child in a few sentences… how would you do so? I am interested in hearing from all religions.

Thank you for sharing your words and your heart!

john 1 -

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men.

5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. 6 There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9 The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-- 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. 14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

15 John testifies concerning him. He cries out, saying, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.'" 16 From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father's side, has made him known.

ABC's of Faith(memorize and use 'em)

Admit-“[Jesus] proved He had a valid claim [to His Deity] but His own rejected His claim yet as many as receives His message; to them he claimed the right to become redeemed of God and appropriate His Name.“ John 1:11,12

Believe-“[you can be] freed from the arrogance that enslaves you [and] come into His obedience resulting in purification and Eternal Life. For the wages of sin is death but the free gift of is Eternal Life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 3:22,23

Confess-“[His message] is near you, in your mouth and in your heart"--that is, the word of faith which we are preaching that if you confess [obedience to] Jesus as Lord with your mouth and you will be saved. For with the heart a person believes resulting in righteousness and with his mouth he confesses resulting in [obedience].” Romans 10:8-10

To have Faith is to be sure of the things we hope for, to be certain of the things we cannot see. Hebrews 11:1

or

To have Faith is to believe when your common sense tells you not to.

My faith is that God exists, that He created the world and is sovereign over it, and that He loves us and is using events to ultimately bless us and bring glory to Himself. So I can trust Him that when life hands me a lemon He is going to make lemonade. I just have to follow Him and obey Him (don't sin, love the brethren, expect Him to use everything, rejoice in trials and rejoice in Him and rejoice in His excellent provisions). The ending will be sweet.

God created the world and the universe,, Everything is wonderfully and perfectly made, He put man in charge of all he created for man is made by God and for God.. He loves you as he is Love itself,,

He is spirit and we are created in his image with a spirit that belongs to God. God hates sin because sin is not of love,, sin is the enemy who seeks to kill and destroy God's holy spirit to keep you in bondage to unbelief.

Jesus Christ took that sin to the cross on you behalf so that you may be free to live and live more abundantly,, to be saved by grace thru faith. The ememy has been destroyed,, so that sin and death can no longer defeat you if you give you life over to Christ.

Jesus is the Savior of sinners and we love Him because he first loved us in that he gave his life for us while we were yet sinners.

Now live in love and believe on Jesus.

Faith is founded on the age old principle of....there is a God...and I am not Him.

There is a God....creation witnesses to the fact there is a God. It is statistically impossible for the universe to have created itself by chance. It is too intricate and complex to just pop into exisitance.

The bible works. What it says is bad...is bad...all the time. Live the way the bible says to live, and while you may still have problems, they will be managable and lessened by the teachings...and following them...contained in the bible.

Everything in my life points to a great need for God. There is a hole in everyone that we all search to fill. Some with drugs. Some with promiscuity. Some with food. Some with sport. We all are looking for that which can satisfy us and meet our needs and the ONLY thing that can...is God.

We are not God. Look around...do you see many gods out there? Real ones? How about a mediocre god? How about just a nice guy? Ok, you know some nice people.....my next question is, how well do you know them?

Its my opinion the only nice people you know are people you do not know very well. You don't know their failures. You don't know their sins. How many times do you hear how nice some guy was, when he turned out to be a serial killer?

We are not God. We fall short, terribly. Hence, there must be a God, since we are not God.

If God exists, and He is who He says He is, we have to have faith in Him. I am not sure if there is anyone on the planet who knows for sure that there is a God, and He is God, that they do not have faith in Him.

The existance of God and your acknowledgment that you are not God and that He does indeed exist, births faith. It must. It demands it.

Faith exists because God does and...faith comes from God. My faith is a gift given to me by God for His purpose in His soveirnity. The "why me's", I don't know. LOgically, giving me the saving faith makes little sence but then....

once again, I am not God.

As an earlier poster said it well, Hebrews 11:1 is the key verse. I would describe that verse to a child like this: Faith is that one thing that propels you excitedly and passionately out of bed every morning. For some that one thing is money, for others it's family, some others it's a career or pleasure. And for the Christian it's the Lord Jesus Christ.

Psalm 5:3:
In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.

Psalm 30:4-5
Sing to the LORD, you saints of his; praise his holy name. For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.

I'd explain it the way I understood it when I was saved at 7 years old: I was a sinner because of my bad behavior. Jesus came and died on the cross to take away my badness and make me a new person in Him. I just have to believe this and I'm saved. After that, I just need to read the Bible, pray to God, go to church and tell others about Jesus' love for them. (This is what I believed I was told anyway. All I know is I was told something like this and was saved at seven years of age in an Assembly of God church.)

If this is not what the OP meant, please let me know.
