In another thread, the accusation was made that Catholics somehow "changed" the Ten Commandments. Since the accusation was false and off topic, and since there is no thread addressing this, I am opening this thread for anyone who wants to discuss it. FIRST: Before proceeding, I request that everyone view this link for a moment, and keep it open as you read this post: http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/command.htm This is the Commandments as they appear in the Catechism Of The Catholic Church. As you can see, there are three comparative columns: Column 1 shows Exodus 20 2-17; Column 2 shows Deuteronomy 5:6-21; Column 3 shows A Traditional Catechetical Formula. So, they are all laid out nice and neat, for all to see. Nothing is hidden; there are no deceptions. The reason behind the Traditional Catechetical Formula is to teach the meaning of the commandments. So, Commandment 10 is split in two. Why? Because it deals with two different issues: "You shall not covet your neighbor's wife" pertains in part to aldultery and sexual issues, while "You shall not covet your neighbor's goods" pertains more to thievery and stealing. At the same time, "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage", and "You shall have no other gods before me" both pertain to the same thing, which is that there is only One God, and Him alone shall you worship. Therefore, the teaching behind those two is the same, and they are combined for teaching purposes. Lastly, the numbering in scriptures is purely arbitrary: The writers of the sacred texts did not put those verse numbers in there, so they should not be considered Holy Writ. So, as I said, they are all laid out nice and neat, for all to see: Nothing is hidden; there are no deceptions, right here: http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/command.htm Any comments? .

Any comments? "Thou shalt not kill" should be "Thou shalt not committ murder."
