In the morning my family listens to an oldies station. My kids love the "rock" songs - "I love rock 'n roll" "Proud Mary". I was wondering, what groups are out there that are more upbeat. I am not talking HEAVY Metal. I want to be able to understand the words. :) Thank you in advance. Don

If being able to clearly understand the lyrics (without resorting to the CD lyric sheet) is a condition I would go with the following bands: 12 Stones Anberlin BarlowGirl Day of Fire DecembeRadio Decyfer Down Dizmas Everyday Sunday Falling Up Fighting Instinct Fireflight Flyleaf Hawk Nelson Hyper Static Union Jeremy Camp Jonah 33 Kutless Red Relient K Seventh Day Slumber Skillet Stellar Kart Switchfoot Thousand Foot Krutch (lovingly referred to just by TFK) Wavorly Top 7 (couldn't narrow it further without sacrificing 2 bands) in this list IMO: 12 Stones DecembeRadio Decypher Down Flyleaf Red Skillet TFK

Thank you very much for your input. I appreciate it (and the fact that you kept in consideration wanting to understand lyrics). :)

. . . . ...... you can sample the groups by going to playlist.com. Being able to hear some of the songs has helped me to know which albums I'd like to purchase...

Don, I've been listening to Christian music for about 15 years now and I don't listen to anything else. I grew up on rock and roll and still love the music because I am a drummer. If you have a computer I would suggest two stations to go to. KLOVE.com and Air1.com Both website have streaming capabilities and will provide local stations that are available in your area. Just about every group that has been named you will hear on either of these sites. God bless, Mark

Be forewarned that KLOVE is a Top 40 style station and therefore you won't hear the majority of the bands suggested here played. What you will hear is lots of Mercy Me, Chris Tomlin, and Casting Crowns. I'm not familiar with the other station.

Air 1 is also Top 40. Listened to it for a while but wanted to hear a bigger variety of bands. I now just cruise Napster and individul bands websites or myspace page to find new stuff. I get the names of the bands from CCM magazine (previously) and HM magazine (presently). Although it seems the majority of bands in HM are the screamo type I relly don't like. BTW, is that pile of antlers at Jackson Hole?

This may sound funny but I am close to fifty years old and I still love the upbeat type of rock music. I have the Newsboys greatest hits and more recently purchased Paul Baloche's Saved CD. Jars of Clay is a favourite as well. Brian Doerkson is really anointed in his music composition as well. I find I need really upbeat and sometimes music that is Christian in it's focus but "off the beaten track" so to speak. I know Gaithers have a special place in their pioneering of Christian contemporary music too but I don't buy any of Gaither's music. I like the younger groups in Christian rock and contemporary music.

BTW, is that pile of antlers at Jackson Hole? Seriously, my local Christian station is the ONLY one that actually plays a great selection of music. You can stream it online at www.hangarradioz.com . They really know what we like. :)

Well I hoped they would cover heavy metal (in the original sense) or other bands that mix up their screaming with some singing (a la Dead Poetic or Showbread). HM is the "hard music" magazine and screamo isn't the only type of hard music out there. I am intrigued thou by two bands in their latest issue " This Fires Embrace" (Aaron Benner's band) and "Since October". BTW, I also listen to (or read if you want to be technical) the opinions from all my friends on these boards for their opinions of and names of other bands, so any input from the music crew on these two bands would be much appreciated. I am blessed to have found this forum!!!

I love the older people over 50 that write in and say that they love Christian rock. That is so cool!! I also am over 50 and I started the worship band at our church some 4-41/2 years ago. I know the keyboard in and out and up and down, have taken drum lessons and now guitar lessons are moving along real well. I love it and I want to encourage others. We are never too old to enjoy and dance to this stuff!! It's the Jesus thing to do!!
