The United Methodist pro-life ministry Lifewatch recently hosted a free luncheon featuring former abortion clinic owner Carol Everett...Everett has testified in the past that while she was working in the abortion industry she was on track to make over a million dollars a year. "You can imagine what my motivation was," she said. "I sold abortions." In order to sell as many abortions as possible the telephone "counselors" at Everett's clinics were trained to lead distraught women callers to think that there is only one solution to their unwanted pregnancy, and then to assure women that their child is only a "blob of tissue" and that the procedure itself will be basically painless. "I cannot tell you one thing that happens in an abortion clinic that is not a lie." http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2008/apr/08043001.html

The thing that kills me is the mixed message sent by UMC on this. Here is their official declaration on abortion: quote:
In continuity with past Christian teaching, we recognize tragic conflicts of life with life that may justify abortion, and in such cases we support the legal option of abortion under proper medical procedures. I'm not entirely sure which 'past Christian teaching' UMC is relying on but abortion has been intrinsically evil from Apostolic times.

Sounds like they are concerned with being politically correct. I rather be biblically correct.

Yes, it is sad that so many churches have strayed from a fundamental concern for the protection of innocent life.

Abrotion is the unlawful taking of life... God's word says the state can take life if so justified. The two men on the cross were said to be receiving their "due reward" for their actions... Man can take life to defend himself or those under his responsibility against the threat of unlawful like taking. Where does abortion fit? John

Genesis 1:10 The Lord said, "What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground." Folks must have forgotten that the most important One is listening to the blood of these innocents. There is a price that this commands spiritually and a debt that the transgressors are unable to pay on their own.

John Abortion may be the unjust taking of life, but it isn't the unlawful taking of life. Please don't use violence to stop abortions- it could get you into trouble. I really like you, and fair-minded fundamentalists are on the endangered species list.

Over 50 million dead since Death Roe and you're concerned some guy who presumably never hurt anyone might use violence against the killers. Get real, killing innocent humans is the business of liberals.

The bible grants just cause for taking life... Where does aborition fit? Or does it... Thanks for restating. I didn't know you well enough to know what your intentions were for asking. Yes, the question comes down to 'when do we stand up or just leave it to God?' Are we responsible for protecting the innocent or do we rather protect strategically our Christian testimony? I can't say I have an answer. Just like the question of whether a Christian should have been an abolitionist in the 1800s. Good Christians might agree with the wrongness of slavery, but would a good Christian actively thwart property law, go against "polite" society, and affect their Christian witness? Some could have just complained about slavery and had prayer vigils hoping to sway the hearts of the country; but instead some got involved in the underground and some went to war. endangered fair-minded fundamentalists...hmmm, just what is fair-minded these days?

IMO His Word bans abortion but I know for many folks they aren't able to see that. There is a compilation of the teachings of the Apostles from the 1st century and abortion is specifically banned.

Early Christians saved babies from trash heaps the Romans threw them in to die, rumors among the Romans was they were flesh eaters, taking out of context the Lords supper, the body and the blood. This tells me a whole lot, of how we should rescue babies, if we have courage. This stand for these babies, started persecution.

It's the hypocrisy that absolutely floors me. Case 1: A pregnant woman decides to kill her unborn child, otherwise known as a fetus. No problem. There are therapists and counselors galore to help her move on should she feel a twinge of guilt. Case 2: A pregnant woman is killed and the unborn child dies with her. Cries of outrage and the death penalty for the murderer ensue. The murderer is charged with two deaths, not one, because she was, after all, carrying a child. Ummm.... aren't there unborn children involved in both cases??
