Just for fun...I just got a new VeraBradley cover and it is so pretty! I haven't used a cover in a while, I was in the habit of bringing a smaller pocket bible with me to church. It was so nice to have my big, beloved bible with me today!

Yes, that is how I keep my Bible in such good shape. Although it is usually on upside-down...

Nope, I just toss it in my purse(which is big enough to house a small dog).

Nope, but I do carry it in a tote bag, so it's protected and all my "stuff" stays together.

My compact snap-cover Bible -- no cover, it's pretty dog-eared from being carried around for years and tossed in my backpack in college and my purse now. My $140, discontinued, Moroccan leather, black-letter edition Thompson Chain my parents gave me for graduation 9 years ago-- Most definitely covered. Those are the two that I carry most. I have a cover on my Student Life Application from high school as well. No covers on my other Bibles.

I used to have a Bible cover all the time. But for some reason or another, I just don't now. I really ought to though because I'm clutzy, and I really don't want to ruin my Thompson Chain.

I don't but I've been thinking I should get one...I've looked at them several times in the bookstore...but I usually end up finding so many other things I want in there that I don't end up spending the money on a cover.

Nope. I did as a child but it slid around and seemed rather fussy.

Nope, but I have a cute bag that my momma bought be for my birthday. It's just the right size for my Bible, my current Bible Study book and our Sunday School reader. Even has little pockets on the side for my pens and highlighters. It's blue with blue and brown stripped ribbon and has Proverbs 31:28 embroidered on the front. I LOVE it! Just found a link! --Kat

I don't have one, but I want to get one. Right now Dh carries our Bibles and songbooks to church in one bag. But I always have papers flying out of my Bible whenever I open it up, so I want a cover that I can keep my pen and paper in as well. I just haven't found any I like yet (well I've found ones I like but not in my price range). I'm hoping to find one before June when we head to the US for a church convention so I can be organized this time around!

I don't have one. I've actually never cared for them. For me, they just get in my way. I do have a small tapestry bag that I carry my bible and my notebook in though.

That's a really cute tote, Kat! Welcome home, His Cov-er-Zippy! Great to *see* you again! Do you take your bible out when you use it? I find those side handles to be annoying, they get in my way when I have my bible in my lap. Okay, here's another ?... How many colors have you used in your bible?...and do you date your notes? (ok, 2 ?'s)

My handles are long enough that they can be tucked in under the Bible while I use it. Yes, they can get in the way. I haven't taken my Bible out of it since I put it in there (maybe three or four years ago?) I have a pencil with 8 colors and a black micron that I use. I don't use my colored pencils in my Bible much now because I have trained myself to be observant without their use... although I do mark something in color that I want to jump out at me. Currently, I am marking everytime I see the word "heart" or "love" because I have been shocked at how much it is used in the OT. I've always been taught the lie that the OT was just about following the law, so I have been really surprised as I study the OT to find that the OT was mostly about having a heart for God and that the law was intended by God to be works that flowed out of that love for Him. Anyhow, that's another thread... I also mark all prophecies and their fulfillment.

Zippy, it's such an important skill to learn to pay attention without marking, isn't it? It was something my Dad helped me learn when he was pastoring. I use Zig super fine pens in my Bible as they don't bleed through. Our church studies verse-by-verse so we do an entire book at a time, not much point in marking dates when we study that way. I used to take notes but now that I have Gabby I usually just scribble the most key points down on the bulletin insert and save it in my notebook pocket.

LOL, Ryanne, I have gaps in my notes from squirmy or nursing babies! I like to date and note the pastor/teacher. I find that it jogs my memory of the whole lesson when I come back upon it. I'm not sure I know what you all mean by being observant w/o marking, care to expound abit? I have always marked verses that spoke to me or I was advised to so that they were easily found later...

Hmm...I use whatever colour I have available. If there is a passage that really hits me I usually underline it or put a bulletin point at the beginning and end. If there is a passage that corresponds with another one that I want to draw my attention to I write it at the end of the verse. Sometimes I will write one-liners at the top or bottom of the page (good quotes from the pastor or bible class teacher) or jot down things on the blank pages at the back of my Bible. I have a notebook for when I want to take down the passages used during the sermon.

I started our using the Precept Ministries method of Inductive study where you are taught to mark each key word distinctively, their synonoms, and their pronouns so you could go back and make lists of what was said in the Bible without missing anything the Bible said about the subject. It's very important to observe the Black and White of what's said before you start figuring out what the passage means so you don't leave out parts and come up with a wonky interpretation. After marking my Bible obsessively for a year or two, I trained myself to observe without marking key words. I still study inductively, but don't have to so so using a Precept Bible study. I still do so often so that my observation, interpretations, and applications are checked and and so that I am held accountable by other Christians, but you don't have to be a part of that ministry to study inductively. It's just how I was introduced to it and the best current resource I have available for a really deep Bible Study.
