I have seen a lot of flack on the internet and in newspapers, about how Christians are scurrying about trying to arrange damage control over his book about the marriage of Jesus and Mary Magdalene.

Is anyone aware of this and to what degree do you find it to be so? Is his book "The DaVinci Code" really such a problem to the church?

No one I know even talks about it. Among my Christian friends it was completely dismissed as fiction and there you go. I know there was a big uproar when the book and movie came out, but I don't know that anyone would be doing damage control, especially at this late date.

(The movie was really bad, by the way. I haven't read the book, although I hear it is better.)

Thanks for the response. I agree, the book is better.

It seems that it is making waves in some circles, and that is a pity because it is so easy to defeat the premise of Dan Brown.

My philosophy on it? The supposed uproar was created by the publishers to increase sales. I've yet to meet a single person that placed in validity in the ideas he presents.

Oh I wouldn't go that far. I knew a guy who based a lot of his 'faith' on what Dan Brown said. When we would discuss the Bible he would scoff and tell me things that I knew came from the book. *sigh*

I didn't argue with him, but I did (and still do) pray for him. He wasn't too sure about faith and the few times he has been exposed to Christians was growing up with a strictly leagalistic stepmother. So when the books came out he attached to them like a starving child (like he is).

I was mostly going by the number of books published as what is called "rebuttal" by otherwise sensible teachers in churches. (Their evaluations, not mine)

He's a writer. His books are fiction, and quite entertaining. I preferred Angels and Demons to The DaVinci Code.

yeah...that's all he is...just an author, nothing more nothing less. i don't think he has any influence whatsoever in the church.if he does with individuals in the church & those people are questioning their walk with Christ because of his books, then we need to gather around those folks in church & hold them accountable with their faith & refresh within them the ONE TRUTH.
if one sheep strays away then the shepperd leaves the flock & looks for him/her..................
at this moment,,,they're making his book :"Angels And Demons" into a movie starring Tom Hanks again in the same role.....

People ignore the fact that Dan Brown lifted his whole premise from another book called Holy Blood Holy Grail which was written a couple of decades ago; theme and details lock stock and ending. The only difference was the "main character" who did the "research". That book claimed to be a documentary and since its publishing the authors have recanted their theory. Amazing that Dan Brown would bother making it fiction.

People who fall for such drivel are hanging their faith on the shreds of Dogma rather than the promises of God and no dogma no matter how correct is just not as stable as faith built on the rock of God's promises.

Actually, it is not the rank and file people so much as the teachers who feel threatened, and fearful that someone will ask "How do you respond?" And not being as rooted and ground in scripture as they would like to seem, respond with panic. That is why there are over two dozen books newly published as refutations or rebuttals to Dan Brown's fiction.

It is being treated as "new revelation" in some circles that should know better.

the only problem it poses is to new converts and those not fully commited in a poorly discipled church

Most of the people I know understood that it was fiction.

The few who seemed to take it as non-fiction were the not serious athiest crowd who thought they had an "aha!" moment and those weaker in the faith who were confused by it. They didn't realize that much of the documentation that revealed the conspiracy theories was unfounded, myth, and sometimes fraudulently written.

Every Christian I knew pretty much dismissed it. There were several books, bible studies, etc. published at the time of the movie, but I don't know how many Christians made use of them.

The book was terrible.
