I remember Van Impe making a video called "2000: Time Bomb" and thought it was Biblically prophesied that the Y2K bug would usher in a period of chaos that would lead to the rapture, tribulation, and rise of the antichrist. Talk about something blowing up in your face! I also remember him making comments before the year 2000 that Jesus should return by 2004, then it was 2007, then he pushed it back to either 2012 or 2018. He now claims to not know the exact date of the rapture but says it is coming very soon. In two words: total nonsense.

Here's another, though more obscure, "prophecy expert":

The seven weeks ended on Rosh Hashanah 2001. In order for the prophecy to be accurately and completely fulfilled, Messiah the Prince must return in the Firstfruits Rapture of the faithful and wise before Rosh Hashanah 2008. Just as Messiah the Prince came the first time after sixty-two weeks plus six years, it seems highly probably that He will return in the Firstfruits Rapture after the seven weeks plus six years. This would place the Firstfruits Rapture in the spring of 2008. It would also allow for Antichrist to appear in the spring and establish himself in power in order to confirm the “Covenant with Many” at the beginning of the last week on Rosh Hashanah 2008.

Thanks cow,
I forgot to ask anyone who desires to post other
failed prophesies if they have them.

Hopefully, it would help some of us to remove our "filters"
and then see what Scriptures really say.

I'll play.

"The Spirit tells me - Fidel Castro will die - in the 90's. Oooh my! Some will try to kill him and they will not succeed. But there will come a change in his physical health, and he will not stay in power, and Cuba will be visited of God."

- Benny Hinn.

"The Lord also tells me to tell you in the mid 90's, about '94-'95, no later than that, God will destroy the homosexual community of America. [audience applauds] But He will not destroy it - with what many minds have thought Him to be, He will destroy it with fire. And many will turn and be saved, and many will rebel and be destroyed."

- Benny Hinn.

That one conference was quite the off-night for Mr. Hinn.

He has plenty others, I'd just thought I'd share the two-for-one false-prophet convention night.

Flashback

The parallels linking the doomsday vision of the Millerites and that of the Branch Davidians have not escaped a range of religious, political, and cultural observers. Both were apocalyptic movements which used biblical interpretations as a template in understand events. To a great extent, they were also authoritarian: the prophetic insights of a leader are used as the basis for organizing the collective lives of followers. The millennial vision often demands the surrender not only of critical judgment and intellectual independence, but of personal autonomy as well. The sect, compound, bunker, or church community is transformed into an information-filter to shape the consciousness of followers, and assure their loyalty.

Common sense would suggest that the worst thing that could possibly happen to a religious group would be for their leader to prophesy a specific date for the occurrence of an event of cataclysmic proportions–like the end of the world–and then stand by while the event fails to come to fruition. Imagine the humiliation and ridicule that members must suffer when the date passes and nothing happens. It seems reasonable to assume that members make exit in droves and, in the future, deny their affiliation with the group. In fact, a mounting body of empirical evidence suggests quite the opposite occurs. A very large proportion of groups that experience a failed eschatological prophecy do quite well. So well, in fact, that we might suggest that end-time prophecy can be a critical strategy for both retaining and recruiting members to a new religious group.

According to the psychics in the supermarket tabloids, 1998 was also supposed to be the year that:

* Oprah Winfrey bought CBS and made it "the first major network to turn its back on TV violence."

* Elizabeth Taylor married Burt Reynolds.

* Eddie Murphy ballooned to 300 pounds.

* Kathie Lee Gifford ended up straitjacketed and in a mental institution after her morning show was canceled.

* Laws would be passed requiring kittens and cats to be destroyed after scientists discovered that they are responsible for a mysterious virus that blinds thousands of people in the U.S.

* Nighttime joggers and cyclists began taking a drink that makes their skin glow bright green in the dark.

* Fidel Castro moved to Beverly Hills following the overthrow of his government, and

* "Rising insurance costs (forced) the NFL to eliminate tackle football in favor of two-handed touch."

These are from psychics. A lot in common with the tv-preachers.
