Hmmmmm . . . . . . one of my most FAVORITE parts about fall is enjoying all those yummy hot drinks when the evenings get crisp. Does everyone else like hot drinks? Hot chocolates, teas, coffees, cappuccinos, etc. There are a lot of fun things to choose from!! Now, don't send a mug with the hot contents through the mail. LOL!! I'm talking:

tea bags
cappuccino mixes
hot cocoa mixes
mulling spices/cider mixes
little packets of flavored gourmet coffee
etc, etc.

Rachel, that's a really good idea. I think though that would have to depend on who's going to be involved. I'd love something like that, but last year, one of my secret sisters sent me some tea etc, and customs wouldn't let me have it. It had to be destroyed. It might be ok for those in the US and Canada though.

Trish- do you know what they will let through customs in that regard and just put it in the special requests?? Having lived overseas I totally understand trying to get things through customs.

It sounds like a good idea to me, Rachel!! I am good for pretty much anything this time - regular US mail this time

love that idea rachel!!!

for out of country people the leader could try to match those according to their country so customs doesn't even have to be dealt with......or maybe someone could send a candy filled mug instead of drink stuff? (I have a feeling it was because tea is a plant though....maybe other drink packages would be ok.....check your customs Trish)

I am sorry but what is customs???? I love SS I didnt do summer flip flop exchange even though I wished I did :) I think a blanket would be nice. Something to think of your secret sister when you have the blanket to cover you while drink your warm drink if you will. At Target or Walmart or other places nice and new blankets are not expensive @ all. And doesnt weigh alot so it will be easy and cheap to mail.....

I personally love blankets, I like to switch them up on my bed while I go to sleep. Asking ppl what there fav color or if people are open to any and all types of blankets I think is pretty nice and an wonderful idea.

I'm in! I love the mug idea. Who is going to head it up? I can help if needed, or if nobody is doing it, I can do it this time if you want.

I checked online for Canada and it should be ok to mail teas and coffees, etc. I will double check with my friend who works at the post office tomorrow to see if it's ok to send it over the border, but the Canada Border Services Agency website seems to say it's ok.

I really like the idea of the drinks!

My family always sends us tea from Canada, so unless something has changed recently, you should be able to.

Secret Sister is when females on the forum sign up and exchange presents to one another. We all come to an agreement and decides what we will like to exchange and the budget. One person most likely have us answer questions so your Secret Sister can get an idea what with you like.... Then you give the person that is in charge your name and address and they give your Secret Sister your info so your present can be sent. You dont tell who is your SS until everyone gets see their gift . Its safe and alot of fun

Well I was thinking to ship both...Blankets are actually light esp fleece. I mailed ditgital cam to this place last week and it only cost me $1.67 1st class. I think blankets that are fleece, are light now mailing conforters thats heavy.

yeah you hit the basics....but there are a few stipulations....
you have to be a regular poster here in this folder...and everyone has to be comfortable with your possibly knowing their names and addresses.
When it first started it was whole boxes of whatever, but it got to be too much and seemed more about the "stuff"...so now we scaled it back and got down to just having a "theme" for each round. The last round was over the summer, and it was a shoe/sandal exchange. We had a sock exchange last winter I think....last fall was a towel and recipe exchange. It's not so much about the getting as much as it is about us being able to share something with a "friend" that we will probably never meet IRL and getting to pray for and encourage each other in ways we can... cheaply because money issues seemed to be pushing some out of these exchanges in the beginning.

since I am the OP, I will add a poll for voting on the item of choice. I personally vote drinks though because we have way too many blankets as it is (with having had five babies, and everyone wanting to give us another one "made special"....well, let's just say we don't even use all the ones we do have...we DON'T need more!!!! So anyway, that's why I am voting for drinks)

I like the idea of drinks but NOT mugs.
I do love mugs very much, but we don't NEED another mug and I'd rather spend the money on sending out more teas/coffee/hot chocolates than on a bulky mug.
I imagine most people have a houseful of mugs But who couldn't do with a few more tea bags?!

ok...I will separate them in the poll..you will have to re-vote now.

(btw....we never have enough mugs...we are always searching for them when we need them...lol. My dad however had more then anyone ever needs, but my mom didn't use them because they had that coffee smell in them and she hated that. I have my one mug that I use for tea, and Paul isn't allowed to touch it with his coffee!!!!)

I like the idea of mugs or blankets. I would've voted for both if I could have. I wound up voting for blankets, but I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because my house doesn't have any real heating (except space heaters that don't do much except run up the electricity bill) or maybe it's just because I wanted to see if I could make life difficult for Sarah! LOL! j/k

Having worked for UPS, I can tell you that customs can be a nightmare especially when it comes to food items. I think I'd be more inclined to do a mug with a favorite hot drink recipe.

I would be willing to help Tracy head this one up or to head it up myself. I do have a preference for two people heading it up, just in case something happens where one person can't do it.

I vote for drinks.
I think something consumable is better, 'cause most of us have more than enough ya know?
ETA: I'm willing to co-head with someone....split the work so we can both participate. Stacy and I did that for the spring exchange, or was it the sock one? I forget...whatever...

I would do drinks or blankets, they should actually cost about the same to ship... flat rate envelopes or boxes are WONDERFUL things, lol.

But... drinks are probably better cost wise then blankets. Although, who knows. My "Republic of Tea" bags are more expensive then a blanket
