I need something to do for my husband from our children. They are 5, 4, and 2. We don't have any money to go buy something, so it's definitely going to have to be homemade. We didn't have any money for Mother's Day either, and my husband got a local pre-school teacher that he works with to help the children put their handprints on a piece of construction paper with paint and with a poem in the center. It was sweet, and perfect. I love it! I don't want to do the same thing for him though...and I am not sure what TO do... Any ideas?

When I was preschool age, we made ties for Father's day, out of construction paper (paint or colour some design on it) ... and then used a piece of wool to tie them onto their necks. I was raised by my great-uncle and gran, and when he passed away 11 years ago, he *still* had that tie in his folder of important paperwork. (I've now got it packed away with my important papers ... )

One year I made a foot print of my hubby's foot and then foot prints of David's foot. I cut them out and laid David's foot prints inside of his. Then I made up a poem talking about how the David was watching and following in his footsteps in character. then I framed it. Russ still loves it 12 years later.

I am thinking of making and updated version this year that will have al of the kids foot prints.

When I taught preschool we had the kids make popscicle stick picture frames, then their own picture was inside it.

My boys colored a "We love you" banner and we thought up a "letter" (about why we love my dh) and I had my 5 yo do his handwriting practice copying it down. I also taped several radio broadcasts that were specially for Father's day, which I knew he would miss due to work.

You guys are gonna think this is pretty awful, but for Father's Day, I'm giving my dH a day to himself. After church, Nathan and I are going to visit my parents, and dH will have the rest of the day to do whatever he wants.

Please understand, my husband is an outstanding father, and a wonderful husband. He's been so understanding and sweet, especially since I became pregnant with our 2nd child. But things have been a little rough for him lately. Nathan has been especially cranky and clingy.

So for Father's Day, he gets to be alone from church till dinner time. I know it's not much, but I think it will be refreshing for him. Plus, my dad will enjoy spending the time with his grandson. It's win-win, really.
