Mrs. Kerr and I have decided to watch all of the Gaither videos in chronological order.
Every night that we can, we will watch one (or part of one) and I will report my impressions here.

Very cool! I'll be looking forward to reading them.
Can I challenge you to try to figure out approximately when the recording was made on each of them? (Not the date it was copywritten.) Some of them you can get a good idea of it by their references to birthdays, etc. That would be really interesting to know.

We started last night with The Gaither Vocal Band Homecoming. (1991)
This is the one that started it all. Bill Gaither asked a few of his Southern Gospel heroes to back up the GVB on one song, and it started a phenomenon that swept the nation and brought some great, but almost forgotten, artists back into the public eye.
After the taping of the song Where Would I Go, Eva Mae LeFevre sat down at the piano and started playing. The others started singing and someone (perhaps Jerry Kirksey?) wisely told the cameraman and sound engineer to keep recording. The result is a treasure.
It is worth watching just to hear George Younce's comments and the great story that Howard Goodman told about the inspiration for Wouldn't Take Nothing For My journey Now.
Great singing by George Younce, Glen Payne, Vestal and Howard Goodman, Jake Hess, James Blackwood, Jim Hill, Eva Mae, Ben, Brock, Faye, Rosa Nell and Mary Tom Speer, Lary and Rudy Gatlin, Buck Rambo, Hovie Lister, Michael English, Bill Gaither, and Mark Lowry (I may have left one or two out).
It was a hoot seeing Mark Lowry with hair about the length that Guy Penrod's is now.
Bill Gaither's genius was showing even then. He took this magic moment and made it unforgettable. His impromptu, subtle guidance of the opportunity was no different, in retrospect, than the many fine recording sessions that followed.
I would consider this a "must have" in the library of every Southern Gospel fan, historian, or artist.

If I can. Homecoming was recorded February 19, 1991.

Kerrlaw, this is going to be a great thread. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I have most of these in either VHS or DVD. Still like a couple of the current ones.

I like the Reunion video. It is the 2nd one, and was one of the best! Remember George & Brock singing "Child of the King, and George and Glen singing with Earl & Lily Weatherford. Lots of goodies on this one.

Reunion 1992. (in the introduction, Bill indicates tht it was recorded in 1991.
This video establishes the basic format that has generally been followed in all subsequent Homecoming videos. A group of prominent Southern Gospel artists assembled in one room around a piano, singing their hearts out, individually and as a group.
The production was a little rough - spotty camera work, candid shots that would better have been edited out, and hand held microphones that sound a little "tinny". But we can forgive all this because of the classic content.
I am a big fan of Sue Dodge, so I was happy to see her featured prominently in this project. My favorite song was Tell My Friends, featuring Lily Fern and Earl Weatherford, Glen Payne, George Younce, and Henry Slaughter. Some of us younger folks may not have seen Lily Fern sing before this. I had always heard how great her voice was and was certainly not disappointed. So many highlights. Russ Taff, looking much calmer than today, did a great rendition of Hold To God's Unchanging Hand.
I always enjoy hearing the old timers reminisce, and Jake, George, and Howard did not let me down, relating some funny stories.
BTW: I had seen this video, as I have most of the series, before. But the best part of being a geezer wannabe is that it all seems new to me. It is especially nice to watch them again after I have gained perspective and know more about the artists than I did when I originally viewed them.
The most fascinating thing was the hair and dress. I did not remember 1991 styles being like this. It was closer to the 1970s - loud shirts and long hair were everywhere, even on some of the middle-aged folks. Mark Lowry had cut his long hair back to a sort of Elvis look, but Russ Taff had hair that was fuller, darker, and longer that Guy Penrod's is today. Many of the male artist's wore an ear ring.
I must have slept through early 1990s fashion (not that I mind it, I just didn't remember it). And that period must have had the biggest eyeglasses in the history of the world. 
We thoroughly enjoyed Reunion and look forward to what tonight will bring.

So Lily Fern does the feature on Tell My Friends ... I've always wondered. I'd thought maybe it was Hazel Slaughter, since Henry had just been playing the piano.

I thought it was Lily. The same group also does What A Precious Friend Is He.
Also, their was great old footage of Dad Speer and others.

Kerrlaw1, I really enjoyed your review. My husband and I watched Reunion last night too, and I had a lot of the same thoughts about the styles, etc. And it was fun to think about what they were all in for in the future! I loved seeing Hovie still looking well, and James Blackwood doing well even after having had a stroke.
If I'm not mistaken, Paul Downing died just weeks after recording this one, and I kept thinking of that while seeing him having such a good time. I'm glad he was on it.
The next one is Turn Your Radio On, I think and we don't have that one, so I'll be anxious to hear your review.

I forgot to say how much I enjoyed Gloria Gaither's narration on Reunion.
She told about Bill's courtship of her (playing SG records and then telling her he wrote them, etc.) and it was cute.
Also about how they rode around trying to get J. Bazzell Mull's station on the car radio to see if he played his songs. (I've had trouble getting it myself occasionally)

I get the first part, but the second I do not. And the tape doesn't belong to me, you understand.
Just a little joke. If Dad goes to jail (the pokey) for owning copied videos, you can send him legitimate ones.

I loved George Younce and Brock Speers doing Child of the King.
I also loved the song Michael English sang (had the solo). Can't remember. Just left me. He was with Russ, Paul Downing, and Mylon Lefevre (sp?), it think.
I also loved the old footage of the Speer family and the song 'Where We'll Never Grow Old' (not sure if that's the name).
Hovie Lister's song he did playing the piano was good too. (Sorry I'm just drawing a blank).
The song Russ did 'Hold on to God's Unchanging Hand' was sang at my grandma's funeral.
