Anyone strugles in this area? Im currently going through some things with my parents(mother most) and I'm not sure if I'm doing the right thing. I'm hearing "No" and "Wait", but another part of me is saying the opposite. How do you decern which is from God and which may be misplaced guilt?

If you're not sure ... wait.

If it is from God, He will confirm it to you somehow.

I am in agreement here. God always affirms. He knows that we struggle in this area. Usually if the part that is saying wait has peace wrapped around it, then the answer is wait. Especially if the part that is hearing the opposite doesn't have peace.

And in addition to the good advice you've already received be certain that whatever message you believe God is giving you conforms to scripture. God would not give you a direction that runs contrary to His Word.

Get others you trust and you know to have a personal relationship with Jesus to pray with you.

Not knowing your situation...Conviction from the HS comes from God. Once you confess, repent, etc. you are forgiven. Guilt, on the other hand, is shame based. It is attacking you as a person. Conviction leads to a closer relationship/walk with God, guilt leads to a distancing from God and a personal shame. Guilt, often times, is set from the standards of ourselves and others and not meeting those standards (though not necessarily sin). Conviction says you did a bad thing. Guilt says you are a bad person.
