After the problems we had with the retreat center we went to last summer (and 5 out 7 years) we decided not to go there for our youth retreat this winter. Talking with a few other small churches we discovered some of the other retreat centers they had problems with too. Plus, the costs have risen so high over the last few years, we spent $45 dollars in 2002 and $115 this year. We're in the New England area, and talking with the other churches we decided to try to put together our own retreat. Question I have is, does anyone know of retreat centers that rent out during the winter, or where we can go to look them up.

Is the $115 a per person charge, and what does it include?

Thanks
RC

I'll give you what its been for the menu the last two years. The price is for one person and is for two nights and two days, you arrive on a Friday night (no food included) speaker speaks that night. Morning you have breakfast (pancakes and hash brown) speaker session two, lunch (chicken patty, no condiments), free time till dinner (snack shop is open, if weather is good for it, snow tubing, if not, nothing much else) Dinner (Fried Chicken, Potato, and a Veg) Session 3, Breakfast (scrambled eggs, sausage. Session 4, Lunch (Rice and Chicken). No bedding is provided, and the food this year for the 17 of us that went didn't last the first serving to feed all of us, and we had to send people up for seconds, some of which they either ran out of the food, or the second helping was very little. In the past is wasn't this bad, but this year they had also overbooked a few of the retreats, and we got bumped down two weeks. Another church had a similar experience with another camp a few years ago, and another church said they met with similar results this year at another camp and paid $135 per person.

You could try looking for a Young Life camp to use.

Locator link.

Our young adult's retreat just came back from their second most posh camp and cost $145/person for 2 nights and 2 days. Good food. Not sure if all of them are like what we had, but you could see what's in your area.

That might be worth checking into. Not sure if they have non YL groups come in, but I've been to both Saranac and Lake Champion and both have wonderful facilities. I think Saranac closes during the winter, but Champion does not.

Not sure where you are in New England, but HERE is one our church uses for men's retreats.

Thanks I'll be looking into these, I met with the youth pastor from one of the churches that wants to help organize this with his group going, and we will be sharing this information.

Try to think out side the BOX I would call you local Sourthern Baptist Assc. even if you not They have camp retreat site all over the USA, Check in to orthe Assacation also. As for the meals you may want to checking in to a camp place that you take you own food See if you have some body in the local churches you working with that could area, (retired school etc )this this area for You I have in the past for up to 100 !Most that know how to can started early collect food and safe money by making a menu that you will be happy with. Check in to small restore that are close to you that may not have the busness they usally have due to the high cost of gas etc. Do you have a large church that has a family life.gym center check in to renting that and use the old fashoning sleeping bag fun girls in one part/ guy in another for a week end this can be a great time and fun we had break out groups.down (School gyms/Local Hotels /Family owned Lodges )time .moveis /Bible Now when you have several church working to gether it can be a blessing!! As for the price It Sound High but when you break down the cost you may find it not so. try new ideals and cut cost the best way you can , We use to have two at a time go to thinig like this OUCH!! We had to start fundrashing early!!God Bless and remember WHy you are doing this !
