When God created woman, He created her as a "help meet" for him. I recently did a study on what that actually means, and let me tell you it is a beautiful thing when you get into this! Our English translations do such a pitiful job of translating this "help meet" from the Hebrew texts. What it is in Hebrew is "Ezer Kenegdo" or roughly translated "helper against him." Digging a little deeper, that's a helper for him who will do whatever it takes to help him, even if doing so may hurt him. How perfect is that? She is willing to help me, even if it hurts me... And that explains why in some cases in marriage it seems like where we need the most support, it seems like she's against me! It's only in the end and in hind sight do we see that it is all for the better. If you're interested, do your own search for "Ezer Kenegdo," you won't be dissapointed!

It's also explained in the books Man of Her Dreams/Woman of His and Livin' It and Lovin' It by Joel and Kathy Davisson. http://www.joelandkathy.com/ I think Ken Nair also explains it in his book Disvovering the Mind of a Woman. http://www.lifepartners.org/store.html All are GREAT books. I'll go look through my copy of Man of Her Dreams to see if I can find the part where they explain in detail what ezer kenegdo means. Good stuff!

That's really cool. Another thing I always remember about the concept, is that "help" is just that, "Help." A lot of guys think bringing in the bacon is enough. But if a guy remembers that his wife is just his assistant, then he will have a better understanding of how she's suppose to function in the marriage. The nurse and the doctor is a good example. The surgery is primarily performed by the surgeon, but the surgical nurse is there to help with a few thing the surgeon couldn't do himself, or make it the proceedure a bit more smoothe. Very interesting!

Yes, thanks for the reminder! Isn't God good? When I learned about help meet, I was taught that the Hebrew term implied "adversary". The wife is to be an 'adversary' in the right things/ways. All of 'our' understandings are richer when we come into His understanding. Thanks for sharing this one.
