My husband and I recently decided to change churches. It was a hard decision for me to make because up until almost 2 years ago, that church was "home" for me, I had gone there for almost 8 years.

My family and I have visited a couple of churches, and I finally found one I love. I really feel like the Lord is moving there, the church is growing, the pastor is wonderful, and the people are very friendly and are always excited to see you there. We've been there 3 times, tomorrow will make 4, and my sons are getting to know and like the people.

My husband says he likes the pastor, he likes the church, but he doesn't know if that's where he wants to stay there. I keep asking him what's wrong with the church, but all he says is "its complicated". I really want to settle and make this church our church home, but I don't want to push my husband to where he doesn't want to go.

See, my husband is a new Christian, and he moved around a lot as a child. He doesn't really know what its like to have a permanent church home. He didn't like our old church when the pastor left, but we stayed a couple more years to see if things would turn around. But the new pastor has shown some traits in his sermons that we really weren't comfortable with, so we both decided to leave.

What should I do?

Don't pressure him, pray for him to find peace and understanding about the new church you like so well. Sometimes people don't feel comfortable with the same things that make you feel comfortable... I don't feel comfortable around overly friendly strangers... they make me suspicious as to what their real motives are... weird but that's what I'm thinking/feeling inside!

Same kind of answer from me: give it time, be patient, don't pressure him, and pray, that if it's where the Lord would have you be, that He will change your dh's heart and give him peace there.
Pray too that your dh will be able to open up to you about it - again, don't pressure him, just be very gracious and gentle with him, and pray.

I know exactly what it feels like to not agree with a dh about a church home and it is tough. I can tell you from experience though that sometimes reluctance to join a congregation is simply in being afraid of investing and being disappointed -- again. The trick there is to remember to place our faith properly-- not in man, but in Christ.

I shared in another thread about how God blessed me and my family when I allowed my "needs" to be set aside in this particular matter. My dh began to really grow into his role as the spiritual leader in our home. I would not have chosen the church we currently attend, but now, I am so grateful that God knew better than I did!

Pray and seek His face. He will either change dh's heart or yours, but either way He will bring you together on this.

Blessings!

Thank you everybody! I will keep praying for my husband. I hope that soon we'll be able to settle in the church God knows we should be in.
