Good evening all! Hope you are having a wonderful night. I am interested in your comments regarding the following scripture.
Isaiah 61
The Year of the LORD's Favor
1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners, [a]
2 to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the LORD
for the display of his splendor.
4 They will rebuild the ancient ruins
and restore the places long devastated;
they will renew the ruined cities
that have been devastated for generations.
5 Aliens will shepherd your flocks;
foreigners will work your fields and vineyards.
6 And you will be called priests of the LORD,
you will be named ministers of our God.
You will feed on the wealth of nations,
and in their riches you will boast.
7 Instead of their shame
my people will receive a double portion,
and instead of disgrace
they will rejoice in their inheritance;
and so they will inherit a double portion in their land,
and everlasting joy will be theirs.
8 "For I, the LORD, love justice;
I hate robbery and iniquity.
In my faithfulness I will reward them
and make an everlasting covenant with them.
9 Their descendants will be known among the nations
and their offspring among the peoples.
All who see them will acknowledge
that they are a people the LORD has blessed."
10 I delight greatly in the LORD;
my soul rejoices in my God.
For he has clothed me with garments of salvation
and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness,
as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest,
and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
11 For as the soil makes the sprout come up
and a garden causes seeds to grow,
so the Sovereign LORD will make righteousness and praise
spring up before all nations.

Isaiah 61: The Gospel of God to Israel.
It has three components (using the wording of the KJV):
1. The ministry of the Anointed One -- Jesus of Nazareth at His first coming (vv. 1-2a).
Christ came first to the lost sheep of the house of Israel, and the Gospel was preached first to the Jews and then to the Gentiles (after the Jews rejected their Messiah).
During His earthly ministry, Messiah opened the Isaiah scroll in the synagogue at Nazareth and read this passage to those present, and said "This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears" (Luke 4:21. See vv 16-30). In spite of this, the Jews did not believe on Him.
2. The Day of the Lord (v.2b) -- yet future
The Day of Grace --"the acceptable year of the Lord" -- began when Christ came to this earth as recorded in the Gospels, and will continue until His Second Coming. We live in this Day of Grace when the Gospel must be preached to every nation and every creature.
"The Day of Vengeance of our God" is also known as the Day of the Lord -- that period in the future when God will pour out His judgements upon this earth after the coming of the Antichrist.
3. The redemption and restoration of Israel (vv. 3-11) -- yet future.
Following that, Christ will establish His Kingdom on this earth, and Israel will be a redeemed and restored kingdom on earth, along with the redeemed nations. This is when "the LORD God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all nations".
When we look around us, the picture looks bleak. When we focus on Christ we see that He is still at work and He must yet return to this earth to put things right, and to establish Himself as King of kings and Lord of lords. This should give every Christian peace in the midst of tribulations. That is why almost every epistle begins with "grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ".

For once, I find myself agreeing with Ezra. Jesus quoted the first two verses in referrence to himself (today, this has been fulfilled in your hearing), so we know for a fact that that part is talking about Him. However, the referrences to the physical restoration of Israel obviously has not happened yet, so it must be in the future still. Good rule of thumb, no?

What a wonderful thread and how often have I "parked" in Isaiah 61 and Luke 4.......
It is so beautiful to me; my heart, my soul, my mind can hardly conceive of it.

Reasonable outline of the Chapter, as long as the outline is not turned into an overarching doctrine.
