I have observed over the years how Jesus is more often portrayed as soft and gentle, meek and kind. But not enough is said about Jesus being a role model for men. I'd like to talk about that here for a little bit. Please join in and share your thoughts. First, Jesus is a Man's Man! He stood for what is right in a world that was chasing after whatever they wanted to believe (human secularism is not a new phenomenon). Jesus often stood for God's teachings alone against hundreds, even thousands who were opposed to Him. He never backed down when confronted or challenged. He never wimped out in fear that He might be hurt, ostracized, black-listed or even killed. Men today are struggling against a world that, to a large extent, has been over by women. Men are often portrayed on television or in movies as inept, unintelligent, blundering idiots and the butt of many degrading comments. The male model from the 1960's has been hidden from view. When men are played in a strong role, they are often very violent and insensitive, but not always showing judgment, discretion or consideration for others. Jesus instructed us to follow His example (John 13:12-17). Are you man enough to stand up for the Word of God against the world? Are you man enough to confront the school board, city council, ACLU or any other individual or group with the truth of the Gospel? What examples would you cite showing how Jesus is a role model for real men?

Dude, that was pretty cool. Remember when he tossed over the tables? That's pretty sweet.

I suppose the question boils down to, on my part at least, "what is a 'real man?'" Is there a list of qualities that men posess that women don't? I'm really quite curious about this now.

The fact that JESUS CHRIST was a healthy male and didn't committ any sin, to me is the greatest role model I have as a man. How he avoided the sins that we have talked about, I don't know but he did and I am thankful for that and that encourages me to live a sin free life.

A favored passage of mine about Jesus is Luke 2:52. "And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men." Jesus grew, just like we should. grew in wisdom - He used his brain. grew in stature - He used his body. favor with God - He developed his spiritual life. favor with men - He developed a social life. It is a reminder to grow all areas of our life, to have balance in our life.

I totally agree and Jesus was a man's man. He helped people out, especially the women and children and he stood up for what he believed it, a true man and role model for sure.

I like that - and He did it for God's glory - His mind and thoughts - for God's glory His body - for God's glory (in life, death, & resurrection) His relationship with God - for God's glory His relationship with people - so that God may be glorified

In the gospels Jesus is perceived as compassionate, meek, humble. He says He came to serve, not to be served. When the people wanted to take Him by force to make Him king He withdrew from them. He lived a humble, low, poor life. The scriptures say he didn't have a place to lay His head. As mentioned, He stood against the religious institution that had been corrupted by evil men. He said when we don't feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and visit the sick and imprisoned then we were neglecting Him as well. The Jesus of the gospels was very compassionate. The Jesus of Revelation, however, is like night and day when compared to the gospels. In Revelation, Jesus is exacting justice. We no longer see the compasion we see from Him in the gospels. We see Him sending His angels to separate the wicked from those who repented (Rev 14). It's a picture of justice. It's so remarkably different than the portrait of Jesus in the gospels. In the gospels He is the Lamb of God. In Revelation He is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. It puts me in awe. I'm astonished that the two very different perceptions of Jesus are indeed the same Jesus. It makes me fearful, lest I take grace for granted and forget the wrath from which I've been saved. I believe this lost and degenerate world needs to learn this Jesus who has His sickle in His hand. The unGodly need to be confronted with the terrifying truth that, while God is indeed very loving, He is also very jealous and hates iniquity. Jesus indeed had compasion on the world, He died in our place on a wretched cross. God still has mercy, and mercy and grace are awaiting any who humble themselves before God and repent of sin. For the irreverant and reprobate, however, for the profane and blasphemers, justice and judgement are waiting. We all have been condemned before God. Those who refuse to repent and surrender their wills and selves to God are storing up wrath for the day of wrath. The only escape from the righteous judgement of God is repentence and complete faith in Jesus Christ. In that terrifying day, those who refused God, who spurned amazing grace, will not standing before the Lamb of God. They will stand before the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. The Jesus who has commanded His angels to separate the wheat from the tares and throw the tares in the fire is awaiting everyone who will not repent. Repent and be baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost! Bub,

I am glad this was posted. It is true that men are demonized this day and age, for example: * Men are treated as 2nd class citizens in court when it comes to child custody. * Men are treated as 2nd class citizens when it comes to dealing with the child-support people. * Men ARE portrayed as bumbling fools on TV. Jesus was truly a man's man. In my profession, as a protector who happens to carry a gun at work, I am looked upon to protect the weak and helpless. I do so, as I know that we're blessed. I also really take protecting family members and prospective family members very seriously, yet, I'm very gentle at the same time. Jesus is truly a man's man. What a role model!

How about John 11:35? "Jesus wept." Whoever said that real men don't cry doesn't know what a real Man is.

ORIGINAL: gmc4Jesus What examples would you cite showing how Jesus is a role model for real men? He was FULL of grace and truth. Titus 2:11-12 11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.... John 18:37 37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. The shorthand... Better to do what’s RIGHT rather than what is popular. Consider what the Spirit says through Paul: Gal 1:10 10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

Those interested in this portrayal of Jesus might also be interested in Paul Caughlin's book "No More Christian Nice Guy"

You want to find out how to act like a man? Read His Word, aka the Bible. 2 Tim 3:16-17 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

That's exactly the point of the book. Caughlin pushes us to be "good" (as Jesus always was), which isn't necessarily "nice".

Jesus was not afraid to stand up for what was right, even in the face of opposition. More than once, He healed someone on the Sabbath Day in front of the Pharisees, priests and other Jews. In this, He taught the value of a human being over obedience to a bunch of man-made regulations. Jesus also knew how to look out for someone who was down and out. The woman at the well was ostracized by the community because of her many marriages and living with a man that she was not married to. Jesus confronted her with the truth in a way that brought her to repentance and belief. How about when He forgave the woman caught in adultery? She was worthy of being stoned, but so was the mob that tried to use her as a way to trap Jesus. Jesus was involved in the community. He didn't let the women go to the school PTA or city council meetings. He dared to confront government leaders when they were out of line. He called Herod a fox and told Pilate to his face that he had no authority except what God gave him. What else did Jesus do that strikes you as manly?

I'm not saying this to be nit picky, but I would take this just one step further. How about studying the life and teachings of Jesus from the Gospels? While I will agree that the Old Testament has a lot of Godly men showing manly examples of leadership and following God, and the rest of the New Testament is simply a commentary on the Gospels, I think that if we go straight to the source, we can learn a lot about the man and His model. God bless you in your search to Biblical and Godly manhood.
