We are looking for a machine to use in our homeschool. Does anyone have/know of one you can recommend? I would appreciate info on where you got it, how much refills are, and the pros/cons of it. Thanks!

Well, I don't have a machine.... but did you know you can buy laminate at an office supply store? They make it so you peel it back, put your item in, press it, rub it, then cut your item out. It is really easy!

Also available at Walmart.

I like Avery brand which has grid on back, peel-off part to help you cut it.

If you want/need a laminating machine though, the best price I see is $39.49 including shipping.

You could also get a Xyron machine, they do all sorts of things like apply magnetic or sticker backs plus the laminating.

I guess it would depend on what kinds of things you plan to laminate, and how rigid you want your finished product to be. For most things I ever wanted to laminate, it was much less expensive for me to go to a teacher supply store with a big ol' laminator and pay whatever they charged per linear foot. I laminated lots of flash cards, small posters, even covers to support group or small church directories. I did buy a small laminator that would do small cards, like I.D. cards, but I wouldn't have considered anything bigger--too big, too expensive, not enough use.

I have the Duck brand EZLaminator ... got it several years ago and I LOVE it!!! I paid around $40 for it at Walmart, and pay less than $10 for 50 laminating sheets (8.5x11). Te laminator does both hot and cold presses, depending on your needs. I use it to do sooo many things (from "ID student cards" for the kids to get discounts on books, etc ... to placemats they have designed .... to game boards we've created on the computer to make them last longer) Our laminator gets used at least once per week ... usually 2-3 times ... multiplied by 4 kids.

We also have an inexpensive comb binding machine (yes, I'm a gadget nut!) ... the kids have created their own books, laminated the covers, and then bound them together to make gifts, etc.
