McCain Campaign Hopes For Terror Attack To Swing Vote More dead Americans on U.S. soil would be "big advantage" says top strategist Top McCain strategist Charlie Black tells Fortune Magazine that a terrorist attack on U.S. soil would aid the Arizona Senator to overturn Barack Obama's lead and be a "big advantage" in helping him become President. In an article entitled The evolution of John McCain, Black notes that the assassination of Benazir Bhutto in December "helped" the McCain campaign because it gave the Senator an opportunity to grandstand as a tough would-be Commander-in-Chief. Black then brazenly points out that another 9/11-style attack would give the McCain campaign the boost it needs to claw back Barack Obama's estimated 7 per cent lead over the Senator. Story Here Now if an Obama supporter had said anything like this Rush, Hannity, Ingram and Fox News would be all over it claiming that democrats are aligning with the enemy. Why no outrage over McCain supporters telling terrorists that they can sway the November elections with another attack? Is it any wonder why some are already speculating that Republicans are already planning an other attack as their "October Surprise"?

I do not believe McCain would say that. He is not that stupid, but if that is the case, maybe Obama can give his friends a call, and arrange another one.

Evangel70, You had me almost believing this tripe until I checked the link you gave. Since when is PrisonPlanet.com a believable source of information other than to conspiracy theorists? Also, since when is making an observation and sighting historic events and contemplating such a possibility, giving the Al-Qaida marching orders? Get real. Al-Qaida has probably already thought about it a number of times since 9/11 no matter who our next president may be. Also, I would imagine that conducting another terrorist attack against us would be the last thing on their mind just before we decide on our next president. History has shown that they would have more to fear from a Republican president than a Democrat president. Finally, last time I heard Lieberman is a lifetime, card carrying Democrat, eventhough he does not seem to be in lock step with the current crop of Democrats, so how does he fit in with your scenario?

I find the article's title a bit over the top. No one hopes for a terrorist attack. Obviously, such an attack would aid McCain ( though I don't believe he has any advantage in dealing with terrorism). quote:
but if that is the case, maybe Obama can give his friends a call, and arrange another one. ...and this statement is even more over the top.

You had me almost believing this tripe until I checked the link you gave. Since when is PrisonPlanet.com a believable source of information other than to conspiracy theorists? Despite the unreliable link, a statement to this effect was made. You could plug it into Google news and read it from another source, if you'd prefer, I'm sure. More to the point, this headline is unnecessarily provocative. A McCain official made a rather poorly thought-out, one might even say foolish, speculative comment to the press. Maybe he should apologize and maybe McCain should turf him. We're not privy to the whole conversation so I'm a bit worried the quote's been ripped out of context. He was discussing the effects of terrorist attacks on political campaigns, including the assassination of Benazir Bhutto in Pakistan. To leap from that to suspicions of an "October surprise" are a slur against the McCain campaign and a discredit to those who oppose his campaign, too. What's more, I think Black is right. Let's be serious. We all know that a terrorist attack probably would help the Republicans. It's historically undeniable that in times of real national security crises, people in most countries usually (though not always) prefer conservative governments. Black's hardly coming out of left field on this. One of the reasons that Western politics is becoming more and more a matter of public posturing and charades is that when people make honest but uncomfortable comments, they get jumped on, like Black has been here. Personally I think political officials should be encouraged to speak their minds. quote:
Now if an Obama supporter had said anything like this Rush, Hannity, Ingram and Fox News would be all over it claiming that democrats are aligning with the enemy. Why no outrage over McCain supporters telling terrorists that they can sway the November elections with another attack? Probably because the people in question are conservatives. If you want outrage, check out the liberal commentators. If it had been an Obama official, Rush et al. would certainly be ranting, and they would be just as wrong to do so.

In all fairness, a terrorist attack WOULD probably boost McCain's chances for victory in November, but I can safely say that no conservative worth anything at all would ever wish for that to actually happen. Although I'm sure there are a few conservative nutcases out there that will try and prove me wrong...

No, I disagree it would not help McCain, because since Bush we have not had a terrorist attack. It is why the 20% of us approve of our president. It would benifit Obama to give Richard a call, as, I am sure, it would be a selling point for Obama. quote:

Have you checked which thread you were in? Did you happen to take a peek at the OP? It happens to be just as far-fetched.
