Imagine:
A car crash ... you're first on the scene ... the driver of the car is conscious and can hear you ... he is minutes away from death ...
In an attempt to comfort him; do you talk to him about God or not?

I was in this situation.
I worked in a specific care hospital for years. I had a direct admit and was called to do state labs on him. It happened to be a very busy night. The ER was paging me via personal and overhead pages. However this gentleman was in distress.
I use to wear a cross and it fell from my shirt and he the patient asked if I was catholic. I told him Yes, and he anxiously told me what he did for his church, etc... and which church he belonged to.
I held his hand even though I was need elsewhere. Well after about 10-15 minutes I explained that I was extremely busy and that I would come back and talk with him if he wanted. He said Yes he would welcome that.
I left and it took awhile before I could get back, but when I did learned he died after I left his room.
No he knew about salvation, no he didn't need me to talk about Jesus or different doctrines of churches, what he needed is exactly what I gave him, MY Hand and understanding, and comfort that Jesus gave me to give freely

Yes, you share Jesus with the person, while you look for bleeding you can put pressure on, or haul him out of the car if it's on fire (leave him if the car is not in danger of exploding; he could have a back injury).
It's not our job to "save" a person; that's God's job. But He does expect us to open our mouths and give a person the knowledge so they can hear and God can open their hearts to believe.

If the person is a Christian, I cannot imagine a deeper comfort to a dying person than to talk with them about their Lord and Savior.
If the person is not yet a believer, it is vital that they know that eternal salvation can be theirs if they but accept it and believe in WHO Jesus is . . . and again, I cannot imagine a deeper comfort than to be given the opportunity to know and accept The Truth.

I used to work in a nursing home when I was in my early 20's. One of the elderly gentlemen who was in the nursing home for about a year took a downward spiral in his health whilst I was on holiday. I had helped to nurse him during his time in the nursing home and felt bad that although I tried to humor him and be kind to him during that year, I never shared the gospel with him. When I came back from leave and heard he was dying, I was really upset. I didn't hesitate to share the gospel the next time I was on shift. I prayed for a quiet time alone with him and God answered that prayer. I asked the elderly man if I could share the gospel with him because I didn't want to take advantage of him in his condition and thankfully he nodded his head. Aferwards, I explained that he could ask Jesus to forgive his sins and that Jesus would do so if he really meant it but Jesus would not force him to do so.
He died the next day. I don't know if he ever asked Jesus to Shepherd his soul into eternity or not. I really hope he did.
Would I share the gospel with someone who is minutes from death? If they were conscious - I would ask them. If they weren't I would pray for them and comfort them as best as I could until help arrived.

I applaud and commend your actions as a nurse.
In modern Britain such action would have earned you a reprimand at the very least.
But that's the subject of another thread - if you care to start it I'll follow.

I hope I would have the courage to speak to him about our savior, How I would approch a dying man or woman, is another thing.
I think I would kneel and just pray for the person, asking God to open his heart to recieve Him as Lord if He isn't saved.
And then Let God take care of the rest.

Sadly, I don't think such reprimands would be limited to the UK only. America likewise is clamping down regarding sharing faith and is fast becoming anti-Christian in areas such as schools, universities, hospitals, workplaces, airports, Courts and even public places.

I would ask him if he minded me saying a prayer for him, which would hopefully open up the line of conversation. If he was saved, I believe that he would say so. If not, but he wanted to know more he would say so.
I have served in the miltary for the last 36 years, and do voluntary work in a hospice on Saturdays. I can tell you that there are no atheists in foxholes. When you stare into the abyss, it can focus the mind on things which you have not thought of before.

Well I am from Canada and it is the same here I am sorry to say.
There was a young girl living upstairs from me. she tired to kill herself she was in bad shape when they brought her down on a stretcher. I tired to Talk with her but they wouldn't let me.
I yelled out Jesus loves you and I am praying for you. Everyone on the street looked at me as if I was crazy, I did it a couple of time.
She told me later, thats what she remembers, she heard me yelling to her, of the love of Jesus.
So if I ever come up to an accident, that is exactly what I am going to do.
Yell out about Gods love, maybe someone who is crowding around will hear me too, and get saved.

Yes, I would witness to them about God in a way that lets them know HE is right there with them (us) and they can have total peace with Him regardless of what happens.
If we pray and ask the Holy Spirit to guide us, He will always give us what to say in those situations (and any other) . For some reason it is sometimes a little scary to take that first step but if we will the Holy Spirit will guide us through it all.
I have been in such a situation several times where it was pretty obvious the person would not make it much longer and even once when the man was unconscious I still held his hand and prayed for him and quoted the psalms to him because we really do not know for sure that they can't hear us.

Yes, this is the bottom line for all Christians. When I mentioned this question to my wife, it was the first thing she said. The Holy Spirit should always be our guide in all we say and do.
