I figure that since the pre-season is now in full swing, we aren't in the NHL doldrums anymore and it's time to start the thread for the upcoming season.

To start things off, anybody have early predictions?

Canucks played the Sharks last night and it was on TV. Kinda Wish it wasn't though cause the nucks came out flat. The Shots on Goal was 31-10 for the Sharks. The Nucks lost 3-1 but would of been worse if luongo wasn't in the net. There was a few good points about the game though. There was 5 Fights. And a Penalty Shot witch luongo stoped easily. Think the nucks are definetly contenders this year.

I am a Washington Capitals fan. Season ticket holder....

I am afraid that we will look good until Christmas/New Years, and once again, be beset with injuries and maybe, just maybe we might sneak into round one of the playoffs....... but that's as far as we'll go...

but, then again, I'm hopeful!!!

Our first home pre season game is tonight (Tues). Don't know if dh will be available to take me or not.

Tonight's preseason Lightning game against Detroit was entertaining. Andre Roy scored a goal and then literally 6 seconds later, got into a full blown fight out at center ice, which was fun, and everybody in the crowd loved--between the goal and the fight, he managed to totally swing the momentum of the game.

I'm a little bit worried about the Lightning though, because Dan Boyle's going to be out about a month because of his freak locker room severed wrist tendons skate accident on Saturday. He's going to be hard to replace.

It's going to be hard for the Canes to not improve from last year's disaster. With Cullen returning to the team, we should be better on shoot-outs. Cam Ward lost 20 some pounds over the Summer so that might give him a tad more in goal. The question remains is his backup: will it continue to be Grahme who had a less than stellar outing last time or Leihton who had a great outing but against a team of minor league players.

Grahame needs to cut down on the partying. He developed a bit of a reputation in Tampa, and if that reputation hasn't been continued in Raleigh, it's probably not because he's shaped up, just because he's not recognized enough.

I am excited about what the Pens did in the off-season. Sydor and Sykora will add a lot to the team.

I think the Rangers made the biggest moves though. You can never tell whether any aquisitions will work, from a chemistry standpoint.

I think the Flyers will be the comeback team of the year.

Rumor has it that there are talks for the Lightning and Penguins to open next season in Prague. If that's true, then I'm totally going.

Yes, I read the same thing here. The Tampa official confirmed being approached, the Pittsburgh front office isn't saying anything.

It makes sense, since Crosby is the face of the NHL right now, and he'll have the Cup with him also!

Oh, for sure, the Cup will be there, but it won't be Sidney and the Pens who are bringing it

Anyway, I think that if they do open the season in Prague, then ROADTRIP!

The Lightning season opener was tonight against the Devils. They started out looking a little shaky and Holmqvist really stepped up in net and saved them until they got their act together and went on to win. Beating the Devils is always a good way to start the season off.

After a less-than stellar OT loss to the Habs on Wednesday the Canes played an excellant game in beating the Pens 4-1. Stall the Elder had two goals and Cam Ward looked like he did in the Cup Finals two years ago.

After looking great against the Pens, the Canes might as well of called in the River Rats from the way they played against the Caps.

Yeah, the d really looked bad... left your goalie high and dry... many times the people around us said that the Canes looked like the Caps from last spring....

Well, off to the Islanders for a matinee.... I hate matinee games! Thank goodness for tivo!

Wow! Caps are now 3 and 0!
I didn't get to see them play much against the Islanders... sounds like it was a tough game.
This sure has been an exciting opening to the season for us!
I'm liking Jurcina, and Kozlov... and dd2 likes Backstrom, especially when she found out he is 2 years and 6 days older than her!

The Canes rebounded from a miserable loss to the Caps by drubbing the Leafs 7-1 at their home.

The good news is his illness is highly treatable and he is going to continue playing through the treatments which do not include chemo.

He definetly needs our prayers right now. Glad he is still able to play hockey though
