Hey all, I need a bit of advice. Well, I am working on this fiction project, and I plan to name an organization:

La Guardia

in reference to Guardians. Is it correct Spanish? If not, would anyone be so kind as to correct me.

Or do anyone have a suggestion of a cooler name? I would like to sound a bit latin, like Tolkien. Lol.

Hehe, sorry for all the requests people. Hope you all are having a blissful time, God bless you all always!

"and I plan to name an organization:

La Guardia is most commonly used in connection with Fiorello La Guardia, mayor of New York City. He was of Italian descent - Italian Catholic father and Italian Jewish mother.

Dunno if this helps, but good luck anyway.

Whoa, thanks there, buddy. I expect a proportion of my readers to be american (it's gonna be posted in fanfiction.net), and it is nice knowing that it is a name with a strong reference to something...
I'll try to figure something else out.. Heheh.

My advice to you is to look up Guardian at dictionary.com or some other place that has the meanings of names and then you should be able to find the tools somewhere that can cross reference it with different languages and stuff until you find something unique. That is what I did with my characters and it was really fun and inspirational. By the way welcome to Writers Roundtable, hopefully more experienced writers will stop by and offer advice here, I wish you luck!

babelfish.com says la guardia means the guard.

The guardians came up as los guardas

I think it just depends on the context. Usually the article(lo, la, los, las) has to match the subject in ending but it depends on what it's describing. I think la guardia is fine if it's feminia but if your subject is masculine, I think it has to be el guardia.

I use Babelfish a lot. It's a translation site. You type in a work or an idea that you want, then use the drop box to click on a language. Under your entry, is what you want in whatever language you chose.

If you want a name, just Google Spanish Names or Spanish first names or Spanish Surnames.

Good Luck!

The online English-Spanish dictionary I use stated that

el guardián (male guardian)
la guardiana (female guardian)
los guardianes (male guardians; mixed group of guardians)
las guardianas (all-female group of guardians)

are the correct spellings.

Nethrenia,

It depends on how "spicy" you want your Latinate-sounding names to be that determines whether you ought to use want Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish words for your sources or French or Romanian or even English. Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, French, and Romanian are all "Romance" languages, that is: they developed from Latin, the language of the Romans. Although English is technically a Germanic language, it has many derivatives of Latin.
