Does anyone know where I can get a free simple photo editor?

I am looking for:

Resizing
Cropping
Redeye removal
Blemish corrector
Adding Text
Converting to Black and White.

I have various programs that each do some of those features, but I would like to find them all in one.

Suggestions?

Yeah, I've seen that list before. Most of them are no good with Vista.
I have about three of them.

What does everyone else have? Does it pay to buy a program, or is there a good enough free program out there?

Yes Vista is a pain that is why I use Linux. You don't have to pay money to have good software. The programs I use come with the live CD and if I need others I just install them from the repository. Installing and upgrading with Synaptic is as simple as 1 2 3. Here is a link to some screen shots. http://www.tuxmachines.org/gallery/v/pclos2007/

I can't think of any free ones off hand but I know it's been discussed in feedback if you want to run a search. Maybe use the phrase edit or editing photo.

I did a search for you at download.com, which is where I get a lot of my stuff, and came up with a list of 28.
My daughter uses Picasa, which is on the list, but I didn't see on the requirements that it's for Vista.

I use adobe photoshop elements 6. It's a tenth of the price of Photoshop and has all I need. I think I got it at Sams for like 60 bucks but Photoshop is over 600! I think it was money well spent. I've never found a free one that was easy for me to use.

You might want to give GIMP a try. It is available for Windows as well and it is free. http://www.gimp.org/. This program is excellent with features that rival the more expensive programs. There is lots of tutorials and help available to get you started.

I was going to suggest gimp as well. its very photo shoppy haven't used it on a win-doze machine, but from what I have read, it seems to work as well as can be expected. I know on a mac it rocks! it can do all the things you want. There are also online tutorials if your like me and need step by step instructions the first couple of times you use something.

Paint.Net imho has a better interface than Gimp. Gimp is powerful but the UI still needs work.

Have you...used GIMP recently? Their current release (2.4.6) is practically a work of art. And for the finnicky Photoshop diehards, there's always GIMPshop, which more or less emulates Photoshop through GIMP while still keeping GIMP functionality.

Take a look at IrfanView. It is the single most useful product that I have found for doing a wide variety of things. And, it works in Vista. The Batch mode is incredible.

Irfanview Web Site

But, in terms of just one aspect of great photographs I don't think I've found anything that matches the PictoColor products. I use the Pro product iCorrect EditLab Pro; but, they have a low cost version that does a very nice job. It's called CorrectPhoto. It can turn dull, lifeless photos into excellent photos with one click with at least 90%+ accuracy, which is way better than PhotoShop Elements or PhotoImpact achieve.

Downloading Gimp 2.4.6 now. All I know, is that Gimpshop was buggy and awkward (still at 2.2.8). There is a reason why Photoshop is still the crowned king of editing and Gimp isn't. Though it is changing, the problem with programmers is that they think like programmers and their design is influenced as such. With that in mind, I'm curious about Aperture (Apple).

If you have the bucks and want a real, high powered program, you can't beat Adobe PhotoShop. If you don't need the very best or are a little lean cashwise, PhotoShop Elements will do all those things you listed at around $100 or a little less (last time I checked).

I think the original post said they were looking for a free program. There are lots of them out there. Gimp is a powerful free program and is cross platform.

There's also a shareware program GraphicConverter. It's really good, but doesn't have the power of the PhotoShops.
