In Chapter 16, it calls "Sarah" by the name of Sarai I was just wondering why. It also calls Abraham, Abram?

Just read a little further, JW, and you will see in chapter 17 that God changed both Abram's and Sarai's names to Abraham and Sarah.

Congratulations on honoring your temple this past week!

God changed their names because he was also changing their identity. Abram means "Patriarch" while Abraham means "Father of a multitude". Sarai and Sarah both mean "Princess" so God could have been bringing her into covenant in her own right.

I believe Elias is the Greek translation of Elijah from the original Hebrew. Surely somebody has a Study Bible to confirm this.

It only says Elijah a few times in my version, most of the time calling him Elias.

Greetings,

IMO
Those are a type of faith statements, when God renamed them, each of their names has a promise attached with it.

Elias is Greek and comes from the septuagint version (aka LXX). I assume that you are reading from the King James, which pulled from the LXX a good bit. The (original) Hebrew is Eliyahoo.

As to the change of Abram to Abraham and Sari to Sarah I would say it is similar reason He named Jacob to Israel. When the LORD works in your life He changes the way you are and as Hebrew names usually had meaning to them it shows that God changed their personality and changed the names to show it. Somewhat in a way when we come to know the Lord Jesus we are changed.

Just the opinion of a small town preacher

The actual name is Eleyahu. Abram and Sarai are close to what they were actually called. What is important here is that this shows how important names are to Adonai. Unlike other languages, american in particular, biblical Hebrew words and names have specific meanings. That is why I try to use the Hebrew pronounciations as much as possible.

Thanks for all the responses everyone. I understand what you guys mean now when you are talking about how he changed their names because of the promise.
