How is sin defined in the bible? There was a thread about whether Jesus could have sinned. I'm just wondering what would Jesus have to do to even come close to sinning?

There is no way he could sin, it was impossible.

ORIGINAL: JordanW There is no way he could sin, it was impossible. That's already being debated in the "God" folder. It's a really interesting discussion. However, my question is how is sin defined in the bible?

The Scriptural answer is, sin is anything that is not of faith in God.

Does it require faith in God to exist? I don't believe so, Romans 1 shows how sin is progressive starting with people that do not worship or thank him and goes until people hate him or don't believe in him at all.

Thank you for pointing out the ambiguity of my question. I assume you're saying that sin does not require faith in God to exist, which is the corollary of URF's statement. Let me phrase it differently: Is everything that a non-Believer (one without faith) does by definition sin? If so, how does a sinner ever become aware of her/his constant sinning?

Not every thing a nonbeliever does is sin, but as many have pointed out it is from the heart that we serve Adonai. Therefore, whatever is done without Adonai's best interests at heart is wood, hay and stubble at best. Now, intenting to please Adonai is not sufficient either. That is why we need to study, so that we can give offerings that are a pleasing aroma to Adonai.
