I've been homeschooling my eleven year old son for 3 years. I've been using the secular curriculum up until now, but I'm wanting to switch to a Christian based curriculum.

Do you have any suggestions for the best books? I'm also open to computer program suggestions also.

Thank you!

Are you looking for an all in one curriculum, like Abeka or Bob Jones or are you interested in combining different programs?

I take the approach of combining programs. We use Math-U-See, Learning Language Arts Through Literature (LLATL), Mystery of History, and Apologia science. This coming year, we will be using Write Shop for teaching writing to the 6th and 9th graders.

They have a good selection of things. They have some curriculum packages that are put together from all different curriculum. Also, they are certified resellers of Alpha Omegas Switched On Schoolhouse and LIFEPACs. Rainbow Resources is a good one to check out too. I am still waiting for my catalog from them.

Thank you! I will go for the packages, but I'm really one for combining. (I think it gives the schooling a bit more variety) I've written down your list, and will check it out!

Thank you! I haven't been to that sight yet. I'm usually combing through the Homeschool Superstore. ^^ I have heard raves about Alpha Omega, and if I can find a deal, that's all the better! I'm going to check out Rainbow Resources also.

I find of lot or resources with Christian Book Distributors. I did AO Lifepac's SS and Science and although I was impressed that they focused on understanding concepts and not merely focusing on facts, I did find it somewhat lacking in interest. I found Lifepac's Bible study on Jesus quite confusing and difficult to follow. My dd lost interest and gave up and I found it difficult to understand how to answer rather confusing questions. Not sure if SOS is the same material or something different.

We're beginning Apologia this year (7th grade), finishing the Key Books for Percent and Measurement before searching for Algebra programs, SS - I'm winging it with the vast amount of resources I already have and Daily Grams, Vocab workbook on understanding the Latin/Greek root of words. I'm still looking for a good literature program. Heard about Lightening Literature so I may try that. I also found a great workbook that teaches Critical Thinking, Logic and Problem solving skills. Never too early to start real life skills!

I highly recommend Teaching Textbooks for algebra. The website has sample lessons you can watch.
