What are your likely thoughts of a woman if you were to use this expression to describe her? Thanks!

Heard of it; don't like it.

Why don't you like it?

She isn't an inanimate object. I know what it means, that she is a good person, but still don't like it. More she is worth more than rubbies.

Oh, I see. Thanks.

So it's possible that when a man uses it as an "endearing term" it doesn't really mean much, I suppose. I'm holding out for rubies then!

My thoughts about a woman described in such a way would be neutral. It sounds like a way of describing your kid sister or a co-worker.

Yep. I suppose so too.

I've been informed (via pm) that it is a way of describing someone of good character who is trustworthy.

That's what I've always understood it to mean.

Term used of a friend rather than a potential SO.

Yes. SO I've been informed. I thought men looked for those qualities in an SO, though. SO I'm just a bit confused.

Never hear of it, but would also not take it in a good connotation.

I don't think it's a bad connotation. I think it's intended as a compliment of sorts.

OR it's merely a way to let a woman down easily right before he tells her he's been dating someone else... And of course, AFTER he's already told her he'd be interested in dating her... but then his conscience kicks in when he realizes he can't date both women at the same time. So he has to choose one. He has to tell her something nice just in case things don't work out with the one he chooses... maybe.

LOL... back in high school (soooooooooooo long ago) I told everyone that my best friend was a good egg.
what it meant was "she might be very good for you, but not for me"

I would never use that phrase and if I heard someone else use it I would think they are hopelessly old fashioned (and I am in my 50s). It was something my grandparents used.

That was what they meant by it.

Yeah, I agree it is old fashioned. The person who said it insists it's an extreme compliment.
And it was recently followed up with - "She's definitely a woman of tremendous character."

I thought Christian men were looking for women like this. I don't get it.

I have never heard this before reading this. I guess I would be puzzled as to what it meant so I wouldn't know what to think.

I am. The problem seems to be no one is looking for what I have to offer in spite of my looks.

This ^^ made me laugh. Thanks I needed that! I'm not particularly fond of eggs at the moment myself. I'm just so thrilled to be a good egg I could scream!

Okay, this explains the confusion in Singles last night.

So we're thinking "good egg" is the female version of "nice guy?"
