Just a proclamation:

I have a new friend who is 41, and never married. He's a Christian, and, in a recent discussion, he mentioned that he is still a virgin. It was so encouraging to me! As an unmarried guy myself (pushing 30) who has yet to "know" a woman, it's sure nice to be reminded that sex is not the irresistible force that our world claims it is. So many Christians give in--how great it has been to make friends with a fellow who has not! True faith in God can inspire people to do amazing things!

That is all.

That is great. I had given up hope of ever knowing an unmarried man over 35 who is a virgin. Most men at that age are not &/or usually have a child/children.

I will say it's unfortunate that there are many Christians, male and female, that have given in for various reasons. I think it says something profound about the person (Christian or non-Christian), and when the person IS a Christian, their relationship with Christ, who is able to withstand...even though I've never had a relationship with anyone, there have been times that had I wanted to, I certainly could have given in, but I didn't....because I'm my Father's princess, and He wants me to remain pure, white, and pristine for my prince.

EDITED TO SOUND LESS JUDGMENTAL when it wasn't meant to be....of course not everyone was saved when they were 8 and that's totally understandable that choices were made outside of Salvation. And of course, not everyone who is a Christian is walking hand in hand with the Lord, and it's easy to fall in ANY area, not just this one.

This is true - however, there are some of us who didn't get saved until we were in our 20's (or later), and thus, being "pure" isn't possible. Also, some people may not have a vibrant relationship with the Lord, and that's how they can give in so easily. Let's not make this a judgmental thread - and thank God for the work He's done in our lives in this area. Being encouraged is always a good thing.

Good for him.

As a 39-year-old virgin ... I have to say that honestly ... a man's past doesn't bother me one way or another. It's all under the blood of Jesus as far as I'm concerned.

that's a great testimony he was able to share! another reminder that our actions are not just for our potential spouse or for our own safety. and i think this concept can apply to any area of our Christian walk, not just the area referenced by the OP...

That's great to hear, but please do not look down on people who did commit the "act" and thinking that they are no good for marriage or they are "damaged goods" because people should realize whether you are a virgin or non virgin, (and there are virgins who are sinners too, let's not forget that) all who come short of God's glory.

I really don't think anyone is "looking down" upon anyone who has "done the deed" at all. And I don't think that was the intent of the OP or any of the other posters.

However, I do think it's quite an accomplishment in our society. There's a LOT of pressure to be sexually active, especially for those who WERE Christians in their teens and early twenties, and for those who survived, it's a testament to their faith and strength in the Lord.

This is one of those discussions that could end up with lots of hurt feelings, because no, just because you "did the deed" before or during your Christian walk doesn't make you bad, because the blood of Jesus DOES cleanse everything...good point, ladiofaith...

And no one should think any less of one that does give into the temptation, because it's just like someone giving in to saying a curse word or eating too much. It's a sin and equal to all other sins.

But if you are one of those who has been able to refrain, and you take a little pride in it, then somehow that gets turned around as, "Are you saying my faith isn't as strong as yours?" type discussions.

We're all in different places and deal with different things. I just think that given the sexually-driven tone of our society, this is a big deal to a lot of people.

Let me just clarify: I'm not looking down on people who have fallen in this area. If I looked down on people who sin, I'd have a low opinion of everyone. It was just encouraging to see that it can be done, and vibrantly!

I agree. I would hope to God that I would not/do not have a self righteous attitude about my virginity, however I AM thankful to God for it, because I do acknowledge it is by his grace and by his grace alone, and I think that is OK. However, I do still realize I am a sinner fallen short of the glory of God no better or worse than anyone else.
