I saw where Kerrlaw mentioned songs to be played in the Bill Gaither song thread. I think would be interesting who see what songs any have they want played at their funeral.

me,

I think Please Forgive Me by Crabb Family. that song gives me chills.

Angel Of Death by Hank Williams Sr. listen to that will give you chills. google the lyrics and read them.

A Home In Heaven by Hank Williams Sr.

if I were to die in war will be a song called I Am A Patriot by Luke Stricklin. you can't find it in stores because he wrote and recorded it in Baghdad in the initial invasion. a few of us were lucky enough to get copies of the acoustic music and considering he is now recording music in Nashville, I am honored to be one of them. sample of lyrics. "I don't know what God has in store for me, if I don't return I only ask a few things, don't let my memory fade too far away, tell my son how much I love him every day, cause I am too proud to be forgotten, I have given too much to be forsaken now, and just keep that American flag in our yard flying, cause I am a patriot and I don't mind dying"

maybe Midnight Cry by old Gold City.

a definate must is Jerusalem by Hopper's.

although I dont want slow sad songs at my funeral. I want people laughing and praising God cause I will then be Home and not facing any more trials and tribulations

We had a thread on this a while back, but it has been long enough that I doubt they would want it bumped.

I hope I have quite a few years left to think about it, but for several years I've been thinking that I'd want the old Fanny Crosby hymn "My Savior First of All" played.

"Because He Lives" will probably also be on the short list, and just maybe my favorite hymn, too--"It is Well."

One song that I know I want played is "I'm Bound For That City" and maybe Jeff and Sheri's song Good as Goodbye Gets

How about Next Time We Meet?

The Cathedrals did that when Danny Funderburk was singing tenor for them on the Prestigious project. I already told my daughter that I want that played at my funeral.

I'll have to think about some other ones for a while.

Hallelujah Meeting and Look for Me at Jesus' Feet are just a couple I would like. I've told my family I don't want sad and weeping...I want a homegoing celebration...laughter and giggles...worship and celebration.

I know exactly what you mean. The best funeral services I have been to are the ones where people are encouraged to stand up and tell stories about the deceased. Those funerals definitely have more laughter than tears and that is how I want mine to be.

I think another song I would want played at my funeral would be When The World Looks At Me by the Cathedrals/Roger Bennett. I want my life to be a witness for Jesus and that song sums up how I feel. I also want an altar call done at my funeral. To me, the important thing is for people to come to know Christ.

I have noticed that more and more Christians are doing that and I think it is a wonderful idea. Christians should spread the gospel in death as well as in life.

In the prior thread I asked for three songs.

My first two were easy: Sinner Saved By Grace and Because He Lives.

I am leaning toward It Is Well With My Soul for the third one, but if I outlive my mother I may plan for Death Ain't No Big Deal (she would never get the humor).

I would choose the hymn We Rest on Thee to be song and then I would like the tune of that hymn, which is a tune named Finlandia to be played on the uilleann pipes.

As an old Band Director I would like a nice Dixieland arrangement of Amazing Grace as done by the Canadian Brass.

Even though I have a while yet on this earth (Lord willing), I thought about what songs I'd like for my funeral, after all, something could happen anytime to get me out of the scene.
I think I would like the service to start out with I'll Fly Away, and go into some other great songs that talk about heaven like, Going Home. Also I think I'd like my Grandpa's favorite song to sing, Some Call it Heaven, I call it Home, sung also.
But for sure at the end, I think it would be great if everyone stood and sang [When we all get to Heaven, and even cut the music on the last chorus.
Those song are some of my favorites, especially for a time of celebration. That's what I want for my funeral.

"The Longer I Serve Him" I love to hear Greater Vision sing this song, and I feel that it's so true in my life. The Lord gets better and better the more that I know Him. What a great song, I hope my family will play this song for me.

Okay, I finally narowed mine down to three: Next Time We Meet, When The World Looks At Me, and for the final one Amazing Grace played on the bagpipes.

"I'm Going Over" and "I'm Gonna Leave Here Shoutin'." I hope my homegoing is so full of His presence!

I used to want "Joy to the World" by Three Dog Night, but since I know somebody named Jeremiah I find it inappropriate now.

I most definitely won't Mercy's Well's song "I'll See You Soon" (you can hear it on their website!), their song "He Could Never Ask To Much of Me", well frankly they could do a concert if they wanted.

Otherwise I know its not SG but a song from the Music Man called "Till There Was You" and from Wicked "For Good".

I think I put this in the other thread about funeral music. Once I had a serious illness that lasted for awhile. When I was able to go back to church, I had to have help getting to the platform, but I sang " It Is Well". Since that time, when I've been ill, when I get back to church, I do that song if possible. I plan to make a CD of it to eventually be played at my funeral.

That would be really neat. I think the most powerful funerals are those where the deceased are able to leave a message to those left behind.

Wow Paul! That just gave me chills.

The songs I have listed right now are the one i'd want if I were to die soon. However I may live a lot longer, so it is possible it will change...lol
