Do (did) you like working there?

You get free coffee and benefits. Even if you work part-time.

I want to work at Starbucks... does that count? I HATE coffee, so it's not about that, but the people I know who have worked there have all like it and said it was great for a part-time job. Not many other part-time jobs offer benefits, either.

But I've heard that they aren't planning on opening so many Starbucks as they have been, so it might be hard to find a job there.

I found out about the free coffee when I applied to SB's several years ago. DH and I would LOVE that!

I may go ahead and apply. I'm not interested in working nights or weekends, so hopefully they need a weekday barista.

you're right....for positions that are in the "Service/Restaurant Industry".....Starbucks is at or near the top.

Which, by the way, is ONE of the reasons their prices seem considerably higher than other "comparable" stores....their benefits/pay packages are expensive....and someone has to pay for them.
The other reason is that they pay far above average for "raw materials" (primarily coffee beans), than most other "coffee stores"....it's kind of like comparing steaks at "Ponderosa" vs. "Ruth's Chris Steakhouse"....to compare is like comparing"apples and oranges"....their 'profit margins' certainly aren't above average at all....

is it any wonder, they are among Fortune's 100 Best Companies to work for?

just read an article about Starbucks...along with an interview with Howard Schultz (founder, CEO)

ANYWAY....great company....

the one near us, where a bunch of guys get together with me for a "small group" bible study EARLY on Saturday morning provides FREE coffee to our group EVERY week....cool, huh?

HEY p31woman: Where in town do you live? just curious...i live in far East Carrollton/West Plano (right next to our church, Prestonwood)

That's cool, kernsfamily. I've always heard good things about starbucks even though I hardly ever go (hating coffee and all). Btw, I was at Prestonwood last weekend for my husband's graduation (DTS). That place is massive! (<--- not meant in a bad way )

Oops, I need to update my location! I used to live in far NE Dallas, near George Bush and Coit, but I got married and moved to South Dakota last month. I was a member of Baruch HaShem near Belt Line and Preston.

Oh, and thanks for the SB's info!

There's only one near you? In the center of my town, we have two that are within 100 yds of each other.

I was referring to a Starbucks that is fairly close to us....and is convenient for all the guys in our group.

But, you are right....we've got a starbucks at almost every intersection, INCLUDING inside most of the large grocery stores.....

I started off just occasionally getting a hot chocolate....or a java chip frappaccino....more of a "chocolate slush" than a coffee drink.

DTS? cool. our church has a TON of interns from DTS all the time.

I always tell people that if I had to come up with something "negative" to say about my church, it would probably be the walk necessary to go from one far end of the building to the other.....which, as you can guess, is a VERY VERY long way....it's a HIKE
My wife has told our pastor more than once that they need to install those "moving sidewalk" things like they have at the airport!

If you ever watch Shrek 2, near the end, there's a scene where the giant Gingerbread Man is walking down the street a la the Sta-Puft Marshmallow Man. At one point, a bunch of frightened people run out of one Starbuck's across the street into another Starbuck's.

That sounds like here! LOL!

I don't care for SB's coffee, but I've heard it's a great place to work.

My nephew worked at Starbuck's for a while, and he liked it.
