I'm really surprised we've not had any talk about the new Stewart-Haas Racing, and him taking the number of his childhood hero, A.J. Foyt. And, it seems, those two are even discussing (or so it's been reported) the possibility of co-ownership in IRL - allowing Tony to actually participate in again and shoot for a win in the Indy 500.

I know many people don't like Stewart, but this is a great opportunity for him, and it's going to be fun to watch and see how it all plays out. I'm excited for him and whoever he decides upon as his 2nd driver. I do think Newman is a good choice - two Hoosier boys together.

I'm already looking forward to next year.

Just have to say, the Brickyard was horrible! I love the Brickyard - but ugh, that was a painful race to watch/listen to/view via computer. ***mutters - stupid tires***

I think the Stewart-Haas operation will EVENTUALLY be decent, but it'll be interesting to see if Tony can hold it together next year as an owner/driver, while the cars aren't up to par. Think Michael Waltrip Racing's performance mixed with Tony's personality!

Wow, yesterday's race stunk! I can't believe NASCAR couldn't at SOME POINT put things in the hands of the crews to decide when to come in and change tires. Talk about micro-managing.

They were in a box. Goodyear had one tire test, in April. They could have tried another test after the 500 to see what could be done afterwards, and the surface's pecularities are an issue.

But NASCAR, knowing what happened at Talladega in 1969, had to resort to this tactic of 10-lap heat races, knowing very well what happened in Atlanta (1998, weather and tire issues in night race caused by rain delays), Lowe's (2005, diamond grinding leads to tire controversies), and Talladega (1969, drivers' strike caused by tire issues).

The 1969 Talladega 500 had tire issues but NASCAR put down 25-lap cautions to see what they could do. Indy 2008 was similar to Talladega 1969, and so they chose to do the same thing from 40 years ago -- and it ended up as a typical Saturday night short track card. Heat races everywhere with a D Main, C Main, B Main, and A Main.
