Whether you agree or disagree, Yahoo has compiled a list of The Cheesiest Singers of All Time

From the article:

Using the word "cheesy" to describe someone's singing isn't often looked upon as a compliment. However, this is show-biz and a certain amount of Velveeta is often necessary if you're going to be an entertainer. People come to your shows to see something larger than life. If they wanted to watch a bunch of average joes in everyday threads shyly singing into their armpits, they could attend a Yo La Tengo concert.

But some singers take cheese beyond one of the basic food groups and turn it into a way of life. Donny Osmond and his entire oversmiling family have made "corny wholesomeness" an accepted media trend. Donny (not even "Don") makes John Denver seem nutritious by comparison.

Over the years, there have been plenty of obvious ham and cheese puffs. Anyone who performs a showtune is embedded with cheese. So when devising this list of the cheesiest singers, it was important to choose singers who didn't have to resort to such over-the-top drama, singers who could've just sang the damn song and been done with it. But no--they insisted on a little Feta, a little Provolone to go along with the act.

See the list

What? No Steve "hey look, I ruined Journey" Perry?

I liked the one about David Lee Roth. He was one smok'n front man when he wanted to be. Here he is as I remember him.

Oh come on, Meat Loaf only comes in at #4?!? For following his original crime-against-humanity "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" with 2 more installments in the Bat ouf of Hell franchise and a cover of a Celine Dion tune, he should occupy every single spot on that list.

LOL! I've been asking that for years.

Horsepucky with the "Steve Perry ruined Journey" nonsense. If anything, he helped push them to their limit.

Have to agree with everything on that list. But it shouldn't have been limited to ten examples of auricular Cheez Whiz.

Moz will now write a scathing critique or song about the critic. What about Celine Dion and all of the boy bands, etc?

somebody's trying to start some fights? he he. Actually I can say I agree with most of the list with exception of Billly Joel. He does have some lame songs and he isn't the best vocalist but if one sit's down and listens to his boxed sets, he really has some great songwriting in there along with great arrangements for their time. He is the only one I'd have to take issue with and could think of alot "cheesier" singers than Billy. We all could. ;-)

10) Billy Joel (give me a break, he's awesome!)
9) David Lee Roth (there might be some truth there)
8) Barry Manilow (as a Fanilow, I'm offended )
7) Morrissey (solo, maybe; with The Smiths, NEVER!)
6) David Clayton-Thomas (meh)
5) Tom Jones (again, meh)
4) Meatloaf (it hurts me a little, but...yeah)
3) Cher (cheesy isn't the word I'd use here...)
2) Neil Diamond (again, meh)
1) Michael Buble (this guy should be on the list based on his name alone...I mean really...did anyone tell this guy that lots of entertainers use fake names?!!)

I guess you could put Liberace in that list and all the smiling singers on the Lawrence Welk show! How could they miss some of the pop divas as well?

Yeah, I thought of him, too. He was an odd duck.

Paul Anka? Sure, some of his stuff may be schmaltzy, but given the guy's writing credits, I'd say that he's earned a bit of latitude.

Personally I took the list as tongue and cheek. I mean does anybody remember the #1 song of the 70's "You Light Up My Life" by Debby Boone?

Whitney Houston?
Are you serious? She's one of the greatest vocalists ever.

She may have a good vocal range but what she does with it makes her "cheesiest". listen to the original "I Will Always Love you" and then play hers. She is an overhyped joke

And add Celine Dion to cheesiest
