I heard on the news that Tim Russert died. This is a shock to me and I always liked him and watched Meet the Press. He will be missed.

It was a shock. For some reason I always connect him with Father's Day since he wrote his book Big Russ and Me few years back and I remember on thinking of getting it for Father's Day. I'll be praying for his family.

Saw this on TV a bit ago. How sad. He was only 58. Big Russ outlived him. Praying for the family & his coworkers (they said he was at work when he collapsed).

Dh was glued to the news channels and their coverage last night. So I got to hear a lot of it, too. One of the things that the coverage mentioned time and again was TR's faith. He was a devout Catholic. I hope to see him in Heaven when I get there. Prayers for his family, for sure.

Mr. Russert was, in my opinion, the best TV journalist ever. His training was in law, and it was said that he conducted interviews as if conducting a deposition. He was tough and thorough, straight-to-the-point, blew through obfuscation, and was never awed by celebrity, wealth, or power. He was also respectful, gregarious and good-humored, and never forgot where he came from. He was a faithful husband and father(he had one child, a son), devoted to his faith, and consumate professional who viewed the whole world with interest. He was in a class by himself. Meet the Press will never be the same.

One thing I like about him is that we've known and seen him as the interviewer but I've seen him a few times being interviewed when he was promoting his book and he's such a man pure of humility and and his love for his Dad and on how he talks highly about him...it's just great. And being a Father's Day weekend, his life is a great example on how we should honor our Dads.

I cried like a baby during Tom Brokaw's tribute to him yesterday morning. I watched him faithfully and I truly respected him as a man, a Christian, and a journalist. He will be so missed.

I respected TR. He was always a gentleman, even when he was doing the tough questioning. On a personal note, I'll be turning 58 in a few months, so it really hit home how young he was!

Matt Lauer interviewed Luke Russert this morning. Luke is very articulate. If you didn't know the guy, you'd know who his father was by the way he speaks. Amazing that he could do that report this morning. He did an excellent job. I believe there are big things to come in Luke's future. This week will not be the last we see of him. The election season won't be the same w/o Tim. He's the only one that can bring it all around for us folks at home to be able to understand. It seems to me the thing in the end that got him......he knew too many people & did all he could to reach out to everyone in everyway. Like Billy Joel's song - Only the Good Die Young. Just to hear what the newscasters alone had to say about their personal relationship w/ him, imagine the folks that aren't even on the air what they would have to say. If I could reach out to 1/2 as many people that Tim did. No person in his path was left unknown. Sometimes, doing too much for your fellow man can end up being the thing that hurts us the most. He may have had a weakness for the beer & food, but I didn't think he was all that overweight. It was people & his passion for the job that got him. There is a limit that the human body reaches, even though all of it is good. We could all learn a lesson from him. I am overwhelmed. Sunday mornings will never be the same. How will they replace him! kd

Russert's other book, "Wisdom Of Our Fathers", was wonderful. It's a collection of letters and short stories that people sent him in response to "Big Russ". I highly recommend it. Bob Edwards interviewed Russert on NPR back in 2006 when that book was released. It's a touching and insightful discussion about the book, fatherhood, family, politics, and "Meet The Press". You can find the interview on iTunes by searching for "Bob Edwards" and "Tim Russert". One of the most poignant moments of that interview was when Russert spoke of his wife telling him that his college-aged son, Luke, had gotten a tattoo. He called his son in and got very stern with him, because they had talked about all the reasons NOT to get a tattoo. Russert told his son he was very disappointed and didn't mince words. Then his son showed him the tattoo. It was the intitials "TJR", and they were inked on his hip. TJR is Tim Russert's initials, as well as fathers'. Luke said, "Dad, I always want to have you and grandpa on my side." It's worth hearing the one-hour interview just to hear Tim tell that story.

I caught some info on what Luke has been up to. He has interned both for Sports Center & Conan O'Brien. I think television could be in his future! kd

It speaks volumes for the character of Tim Russert that so many people loved him so much. People who never knew him personally felt he was a part of their family. He loved his country so much and it showed in the level of professionalism he brought to his job. I think though that the best thing I heard about Mr. Russert was said by one of his colleagues. I forget his name so I apologize for not being able to name him. I do know that the quote comes from a Jewish man who appears on Countdown with some regularity. He spoke of Tim by saying. "In Washington there are a lot of people who pursue false gods, Tim pursued the real One." Can anyone think of a better way to talk about someone?

I loved the fact that the rainbow came out right after his funeral. You tell me he wasn't a man of God. What peace that had to bring to the hearts of those who knew and loved him. I look forward to meeting him in Heaven one day.

Two that appeared as they were leaving the public memorial and one that appeared over NBC's Washington headquarters as they returned. While the song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" was playing in the case of the former.
