Mickey and Minnie escape unharmed during daring daylight cheese robbery!

"Somehow the mouse overpowered me for my gun and shot us both!" claimed the embarrassed victim.

Generally, it's assumed that the .44 Magnum produces a clean mouse kill, preventing a lot of unnecessary tracking of the mouse in question prior to cleaning and dressing, not to mention the avoidance of dealing with an enraged and wounded mouse should it decide to charge. In most instances, however, I would highly recommend moving downscale to something in the .22-birdshot range to avoid friendly-fire incidents such as the one indicated. More often than not, it will provide enough stopping power to avoid second and third shots, a less damaged carcass, and less potential blowback.
