Okay, so I know there are little, if any, women here who have had this experience or know anyone that's had experience in this realm. My question is, has anyone had reconstructive surgery (on the vulva/vagina/labia minora or external genitalia) or know anyone who has? And if so, relate the experience (whether it was good or bad).
I realize my body does not react the way most other women's do, and everyone's surgery is different. Looking now, I see that I'll either have to have reconstructive surgery on my vestibule or just live with it. I might not get it done til years from now, but I think I want to, just to make myself like I used to be (and I really don't think any woman wants to see a gaping hole/indention from where a Canal of Nuck cyst used to be-- and it was huge).
I just don't think I know, IRL, any women who've had to have vaginal reconstructive surgery. All I have is case studies, textsbooks, and pictures (none of which are for fixing the ravages of this kind of cyst).
PS I'm not asking about hymen reconstruction; I had to have surgery to get rid of mine.

I don't haven't had any, but in doing research about the Rectocele I found the "hystersisters" forum and they have ALOT of woman who have had vaginal surgeries, you might check there for info.

I just don't know if insurance will cover it. It probably wouldn't bother anyone else or my spouse (if I marry), but if you look you can see where surgery messed up the vaginal wall and minor labia. Everything is STILL swollen (after over a year past the surgery), but I can definitely tell that the vagina isn't going to look like it did before the surgery.

I was about to make another thread then I thought the old one was probably around here somewhere. :)
I'm fairly certain that a reconstructive surgery would put me back where I am now. Surgery is what gave me this (seemingly) permanent swelling, pain, and irritation. I know some of it is the vulvodynia, but I'm wondering what I should do now. I've given it time and been as accommodating as I can be.

Tami- I guess I would look more into a plastic surgeon for the surgery than an ob/gyn since it is repairing muscles and nerves that have been damaged. But besides just the physical issues, I *think* a plastic would be able to help with the swelling and such in getting some things that were damaged in the first surgery back in place. However if you don't do the surgery you probably won't get any better - and can you live your life the way it is right now?? It may be something that you have to save up for, but in my opinion, you need the surgery to have a quality life - and therefore insurance should help to cover it. This isn't just to look better, but so that you can function normally. Having to stand because the pain is so bad that you can't sit is not normal (all the time like you are- not just for a day or two because of periodic pain obviously).

The problem is that it's just soft tissue involved, and surgery on the soft tissue is what made it swell to begin with. If they do more surgery on the soft tissue, I'll swell up more, stay the same, or be swollen with less tissue on that side. I'm thinking even if they take some tissue off the swollen side or reshape it (to "even things out"), surgery to the area is so traumatic (to my body) that the pain and swelling won't resolve-- just the aesthetics will. I think the vulvodynia and IC may be complicating it and I know I have had some anomalies, which is why I'm going to a urogynecologist that specializes in how everything is interconnected (and "special" gyno surgery). I'm thinking even if he can't do anything, he might know someone who can, although logically I can't think of anything to be done by any kind of doctor, unless they want to try some electrode stimulation, although that's usually for open wounds...might be worth a try if it has a chance to work.
I've healed from every other kind of surgery except the gynecological ones, but all the gyno ones have been directly to my vestibule, and I'm afraid I've just lost that ability to recover in the area due to how sensitive it is..and these disorders that affect my vestibule. I know my doctors never really wanted to do more surgery there; I suppose cutting, suturing and removing large anomalies like that can cause these kinds of problems... The only other cases I've seen took a long time to heal, but none longer than four months (if I remember right).
A plastic surgeon can fix how things look and make the bigger side the right size, but what he can't fix is the fact that I can't heal in that area of my body. If he does something to make it look better, it still lacks the ability to heal after surgeries. It may look right to the eye (which is okay), but in reality I'll probably feel the same way physically.
The standing isn't usually from the surgery issues by itself though; I usually have to have pain from the surgery and the vulvodynia has to be especially bad on a given day (or the vvs, IC, and surgery are all bad on a particular day).
I'm not sure that my insurance would cover it though. They won't even cover things that I'm pretty sure they know I need (CT to check out a mass, tumor biopsy, etc). That's one reason why I waited to get the surgery that messed me up to begin with. Insurance didn't approve it, but it got to where it became an emergency situation after some time passed.
I'm getting kind of sleepy so that might not have made sense...not all of it anyway, lol.

I've heard of this on Dr. 90210. I think it's silly to have it done just because you feel old and want to look like a 16 year old, but Hollywood is like that.
